Tips You're Sure To Use

When developing your description...

Try to see if you can include as much information as possible. Below are some ideas of how to describe your item best:

Brand name
Color
Age or era
Condition
Warnings/restrictions
Defects
Any Other Policies
   Dimensions
Weight
Original retail price
Guarantees
Certificate of Authenticity
Shipping costs/info
Payment policies
   Material
Country of origin
Rarity
Uses
Markings

When listing your item...
  1. We've found that the best time of day to start a listing is during eBay's peak time, which is 5-9pm, PST. Also, weekends are a good time to run a listing.
  2. To make your fundraising listings stand out from the rest, you should use your organization's logo(s), and make sure all listings are done in HTML (HyperText Markup Language), which is the simple language used to create Web pages. Find out more about HTML by clicking here.
  3. There are many different ways to sell the items you are offering in your charity fundraising efforts, including our standard online auction format, setting a fixed price, using your own eBay Store, using a reserve price or selling with the Buy It Now feature. Click here to find out more about all the selling formats available to sellers on eBay.
  4. Make sure you wander around eBay (both the Charity Fundraising section and the overall site) and observe how other sellers describe their items, set payment and shipping terms, and use images.
  5. Include at least one photo that shows a close-up of the item(s) you are selling, including any flaws it may have. Photos should generally be no larger than 400x400 (pixels high, pixels wide) for the best display in your item description.
  6. Place the word "Charity" in your title and/or description so that members on our site have one more way of finding your items for sale when they run a title search on our site. This gives you more ways for members to find your items besides the relevant categories that you list your items in on our site.
Good Links & Bad Links...

Good links to use on your Item page include links to:

  • Your About Me page.
  • Other items you have for sale (can either be to your list, About Me page, eBay Store, gallery or Half.com listings).
  • Other photos.
  • Third party services.
  • Links to seller's email address that will open an email client.
Bad Links that should not be used on your Item page include links to:
  • Web pages that offer to trade, sell or purchase goods or services outside of eBay.
  • Items that are prohibited on eBay.
  • Sites that solicit eBay member email addresses and passwords.
  • eBay or Half.com listings
NOTE: Be sure to review eBay's listing policies for complete details.

Customer Service & Follow-Through...
The listing is over and you've made the sale, and you're probably asking yourself..."Now What?" The big thing to remember from a customer service standpoint is this - communication is key! Start off with a friendly yet efficient email to the high bidder(s) advising them about the final price, including shipping charges. If you find you're having difficulty reaching your buyer(s) via email after 3 business days, pick up the phone and give them a call.

Things to Know

  • Aspire to be a PowerSeller. As the pillars of our community, PowerSellers are committed to upholding and embracing the core community values that are the very foundation of eBay. They are exemplary members who are held to the highest standards of professionalism, having achieved and maintained a 98% positive feedback rating and an excellent sales performance record. As such, we not only recognize and respect our PowerSeller members, we provide them with a bountiful array of benefits and rewards for maintaining their status in our community. We invite you to learn more about our PowerSeller program by clicking here.

  • Bid Verification/Bid Allow. All bids at or above $15,000 require verification, either by credit card or alternative ID, prior to placing a bid. Click Learn More for details on Bid Verification. Bid Allow gives you the opportunity to have a select number of members bid on an item that may be high in dollar or PR value, or if you simply elect to allow just a few members to have access to that item. Click Learn More for details on Bid Allow.

  • Talk Person to Person. We've said it before and it bears repeating - communication between a buyer and seller is critically important at eBay. If you feel uncomfortable about your deal, sometimes a quick phone call is a great way to resolve misunderstandings. Remember, many people don't read their email every day, so a call may also be the quickest way to reach your buyer and both get back on the same page as to your deal. To find out how you can request another user's contact information (they must be involved in a current or recent transaction with you), click here.

  • With International Trading, The World is Your Oyster. International Trading on eBay is trading with members of the global eBay Community around the world. It is one of the fastest growing trading areas on eBay and opens a world of new and exciting trading possibilities for your fundraising efforts! Listing items internationally - as well as in the U.S. - puts your items in front of 60% more buyers than selling within the U.S. alone. More potential buyers means more chances to find the buyer with the most interest in your items. All the information that you need can be found here: International Trading Service Center.

  • Being listed in the Charity A-Z Directory: If you are an organization fundraising on our site, and would like to be listed in the directory, please send us an email inquiring so we can let you know what information we will need from you. We do ask that you are a 501c3 organization, already be registered on the site, and provide additional information about your organization. This is also a great place to contact us if you are thinking about or are having a large fundraising event on our site so we can see how we might be able to assist you further!
