More insight, more guidance, and more time to get back on track
When you’re unable to meet eBay’s minimum performance standards, we’re making it easier to understand your status, how you got there, and what you can do to fix the situation.
As you work to make these improvements, we’ll defer performance-related selling limits or selling restrictions on your accounts for at least three months (other consequences may still apply*). This will give you ample time to focus on selling and getting your status back above standard.
Beginning October 20, 2016, if your status is below standard, you will receive:
Specific insight into the reason (or reasons) why your status is below standard
In addition to giving you a clear status alert, your seller dashboard will provide a detailed look into why you’re not meeting eBay’s minimum performance standards.
Clear and actionable guidance on what you can do to improve your performance
From your seller dashboard, you’ll also receive coaching and advice aimed at helping you resolve the issues that may have caused your status to be below standard.
Take the time you need to improve, without performance-based selling limits or restrictions
To help you stay focused on improving your performance, eBay will defer performance-based selling limits or selling restrictions on your account for three months.
If, after those three months, your status is still below standard but you’re showing improvement (i.e., your defect rate or rate of cases closed without seller resolution (or both) is lower than when you entered below standard), your grace period will be extended for another month. And, as long you show improvement, it will continue to be extended on a monthly basis.
You can check your seller dashboard at any time to monitor your progress and see how much time you still have to improve your performance.
*The three-month period does not apply to other performance-related consequences, such as lower search placement, fund holds, or the loss of Anchor and Premium Store privileges. Other eBay policy violations could result in selling limits or selling restrictions on your account.
Giving you more control over your performance, with more help from us
Last year, we took an important step in giving you more control with our simpler, more objective seller standards.
Now, we’re taking another key step in that direction by providing better insight and clearer guidance for sellers who fall below eBay’s minimum performance standards.
In this new experience, you’ll receive the information you need to get back on track, and at least three months to make improvements before performance-related selling limits or selling restrictions on your account take effect.
Visit your seller dashboard to see where you stand
Check your seller dashboard to review your status. For sellers whose status is above standard or Top Rated, no action is required as long as your status remains at least above standard.
Beginning October 20, 2016, if your status is below standard:
- Click “but you still have time to improve” in the top module of the dashboard to see what issues may be the cause
- Make the recommended adjustments, following the guidance provided to help improve your performance
- Use your three-month period to improve your status to above standard, without experiencing performance-based selling limits or selling restrictions
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What are eBay’s seller standards?
Our 2015 Fall Seller Update page offers a helpful summary of our seller standards, with more details provided on our seller standards help page.
-
Are eBay’s standards changing on October 20, 2016?
None of the standards which went into effect February 20, 2016 are changing on October 20, 2016.
-
What does “showing improvement” mean?
Your status is considered below standard when your defect rate or rate of cases closed without seller resolution (or both) is higher than what our minimum performance standards allow. Showing improvement means that you have raised either, or both of these criteria in the current month compared to the previous month.
-
How do I know if I’m improving?
Your seller dashboard will be regularly updated to show which performance metric is causing your status to be below standard, and whether you are showing improvement.
-
What happens if I haven’t shown improvement after that three-month period?
If your defect rate or rate of cases closed without seller resolution (or both) remains the same or is higher after those three months, selling limits and selling restrictions will be reinstated, in addition to other below-standard consequences, such as lower search placement, funds hold, and the loss of Anchor and Premium Store privileges.
-
What happens if I raise my performance above standard, then fall below again? Will I be given the chance to improve?
Any time you fall below standard after being above standard or Top Rated, you will receive the same guidance and three-month opportunity to improve your performance, without additional performance-based selling limits or selling restrictions on your account.
