Changes to Categories and Item Specifics - June 2009
The category structure will be updated the week of June 15, 2009. If you sell in the areas below, please take a look at the new category structure and Item Specifics change detail.
Antiques
- Silver: Updating the category structure in the Antique Silver section to indicate appropriate classification of items according to their silver content.
> Note to Sellers: antique silver listings may need to be revised or moved into a different category, depending on silver content.
Books
- Textbooks: Updating Item Specifics to improve alignment with our product catalog and incorporate Community suggestions.
Cameras
- Binoculars & Telescopes: consolidating Magnification subcategories.
> Note to Sellers: use Custom Item Specifics to indicate magnification strength
Clothing, Shoes & Accessories
- Luggage: Men's and Women's luggage is being moved out of Clothing Shoes & Accessories and into Travel, in order to consolidate the inventory on the site into one location.
- Men's Accessories: creating a section for ID & Document Holders; removing color-specific categories in Wallets.
> Note to Sellers: use Custom Item Specifics to indicate wallet color
- Uniforms: Removing size-specific categories in Scrubs; Boys, and Girls.
> Note to Sellers: use Custom Item Specifics to indicate uniform sizes
- Unisex Accessories: many additions in this section, including a new category for Reusable Shopping Bags.
- Wedding Apparel & Accessories: removing color and size subcategories under Bridesmaids' Dresses and Girls' Dresses.

- Women's Accessories: we're renaming this section to reflect that Handbags is being separated from Accessories; creating a section for ID & Document Holders.
- Women's Handbags & Bags: we're moving handbags to a new elevated section; creating new categories for non-handbag item such as Backpacks, Briefcases, Cell Phone Cases, Diaper Bags, Duffle Bags, and more. Item Specifics in this section will be updated to describe more handbag styles; non-handbag item specifics are being removed & replaced by categories. > Note to Sellers: update your handbag listings to take advantage of the new Item Specifics values. Briefcases, cell phone cases, cosmetics bags, diaper bags and MP3 player cases should move into their own newly-created categories in this section and should no longer be listed in the renamed "Handbags, Purses" category.
Coins & Paper Money
- Replicas & Reproductions: we're placing categories for non-original coins and paper money in more prominent locations throughout this section. Please visit the Selling Currency policy page for more information about selling coins and paper money on eBay.
> Note to sellers: non-original coins and bills should not be listed in the regular denomination categories.
Collectibles
- Animals: Adding a category in Dogs for Sussex Spaniels (this year's Westminster winner).
- Cultures & Ethnicities: Look for new "Canada: First Nations" and "Canada: Inuit" categories. In the Native American section, we're adding a new Craft Supplies category, and renaming the "Reproductions" category to "Non-Native American Crafts."
Crafts
- Art Supplies: removing subcategories under Airbrushing.
- Needlecrafting: removing subcategories under Hardanger.

Electronics
- iPod & MP3 Accessories: we're combining the subsections called "for iPod" and "for MP3" into a single list of accessories.

Home & Garden
- Inside the Home: removing size-specific subcategories in Bedding; material-specific subcategories in Plaques & Signs; and power source-specific subcategories in Ranges & Cooking Appliances and Clothes Dryers.
- Yard & Garden: removing material-specific subcategories in Planters, Pots & Windowboxes.

Jewelry
- Engagement & Wedding: in keeping with changes to our Jewelry Policy, we're renaming categories from "CZ, Diamond Simulants" to "CZ, Simulated Stones".
- Fashion: again in compliance with our updated Jewelry Policy, we're removing the word "diamond" from category titles, replacing it with either Cubic Zirconia or Simulated Stones. We're also removing material-specific subcategories under Fashion Rings.
> Note to sellers: If you sell natural diamonds or simulated diamonds, please carefully review the new Jewelry policy, as your listings may require modification. If you sell Fashion Rings, be sure to use Item Specifics to describe your items.
- Loose Diamonds & Gemstones: we're renaming categories from "CZ, Diamond Simulants" to "CZ, Simulated Stones". Please visit our Jewelry Policy page for details.
> Note to sellers: If you sell simulated diamonds, please carefully review the new Jewelry policy, as your listings may require modification.
Music
- CDs, Cassettes and Records: Updating Item Specifics to improve alignment with our product catalog and incorporate Community suggestions.
Musical Instruments
- Guitar: removing subcategories under Amplifier Parts & Accessories.

Pet Supplies
- We're excited to announce the promotion of Pet Supplies to a new top-level category, accessible from eBay's home page!
- Aquarium: adding subcategories under Coral.
- Dog Supplies: removing size-specific subcategories under Dog Beds.
Toys
- Webkinz & Lil'Kinz: we're simplifying the subcategory structure to sort by Animals or Accessories.

Travel
- Luggage: We're consolidating our luggage inventory into one location on the site, and moving luggage items from Clothing, Shoes & Accessories into the Travel area.
