eBay Live Auctions: Help: Before The Auction

Setting up your System

Live bidding uses Internet technology that ensures that your bid is received by the auction house at the time that you place it. Because of that, there is a minimum system configuration required. These requirements only apply for live bidding - you can browse auctions, search for lots, and place absentee bids with almost any computer system.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you are unable to move past the "Loading..." screen or if you receive errors when trying to load the live bidding/viewing interface we recommend that you upgrade your version of Java. If that does not fix your problem please try clearing your eBay cookies and/or clearing your browser cache.

Java Upgrade

If you have a PC: To do this, please go to http://www.java.com/en/download/ and click on the orange "Begin Download" button.

If you have a Mac: The following fix works for Mac OS X 10.3 and Firefox 1.0.3 and higher. Please perform the following steps:

1) Upgrade to Java 1.4.1 by either:

2) Download and install the Java Embedding Plugin from http://sourceforge.net/projects/javaplugin/

Clear your cache and eBay cookies

To delete your eBay cookies, go to the Start menu found on your taskbar. Select the "Search" or "Find" option, and "Files or Folders". Type "Cookies" in the search box and make sure that the "look in" field is selecting your hard drive, usually C:. Once the search is complete, double-click all the folders named "Cookies" and, in each folder, delete all the files that have the word "eBay" in the name.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools->Internet Options->General and click the "Delete Files" button under the "Temporary Internet files" section. Click OK.

In Netscape Navigator, go to Edit->Preferences, click on the arrow or + next to Advanced->Cache and click the Clear Cache button on the right hand side of the page. Click OK.

In Firefox, go to Tools->Options->Privacy, and then select "Clear" next to History, Cookies, Cache. Click OK.
