eBay Giving Works is the dedicated program for charity listings on eBay.
Once your organization is certified to be included in the nonprofit directory, you can fundraise with eBay Giving Works in two ways:
Community Selling – Anyone can sell an item on eBay and donate 10% to 100% of its final sale price to your nonprofit organization (there is a $5 minimum donation required if the item sells). The resulting donation will be collected and distributed to you, and a tax receipt will be issued to the seller on your behalf (there is a small deduction from the donation associated with this service) if a seller creates an eBay Giving Works listing and selects your nonprofit to benefit from the sale. Learn more about Community Selling. MissionFish will notify you of the listing according to your account preferences (if you prefer your organization not to be associated with the listing, you may use your Nonprofit My MissionFish account to request that the listing be cancelled).
Direct Selling – As a Direct Seller, your nonprofit organization can list an item for sale on eBay. You collect payment from the buyer, and you are responsible for providing a tax receipt, if applicable. Make sure you first add your eBay User ID to your Nonprofit My MissionFish account as a Direct Seller (MissionFish does not process the donation in this type of transaction, and therefore there is no deduction as described above). Learn more about Direct Selling.
eBay Giving Works listings stand out with a nonprofit icon
. In addition, donation information is displayed in the item description, instilling buyer confidence and trust. Plus, nonprofit listings receive additional visibility through specialized search functionality. So, eBay Giving Works listings on average tend to sell more often with more bids and at higher final prices.
As an added benefit, when an eBay Giving Works listed item sells (that a seller set to donate at least 90% of the final sale price to a certified nonprofit), eBay will include the seller's Insertion and Final Value Fees in addition to the sale price, up to a total of $2 million per year. Your Direct Selling listings also qualify! Learn more about the eBay Giving Works Fee Credit Policy.
Note:
MissionFish is the nonprofit eBay has chosen to administer the eBay Giving Works program. MissionFish's valuable service and support includes: managing the nonprofit directory; verifying nonprofit eligibility; collecting and disbursing sellers' donations; providing sellers with tax receipts; and tracking donations online. MissionFish also maintains a page for your organization which aggregates all the listings benefiting your nonprofit at any given time.
Note: Because charitable fundraising is a highly regulated area subject to numerous state and federal laws, eBay has created very specific guidelines for allowing charitable solicitations. Learn more about the charity listing policy.
Example: A nonprofit decides to list a woman's sweater to raise funds. 100% of the final sale price will support the member nonprofit. The sweater is listed at $10 and sells for $100.
