Selling on eBay Motors

eBay Motors is a specialty site of eBay. It's an online marketplace for buying and selling all types of vehicles, boats, vehicle parts, and accessories. There are several services and tools to help you buy and sell on eBay Motors. The listing formats are just like those on eBay.

To create an eBay Motors vehicle listing, you need to gather important information about your vehicle. To ensure a smooth listing process and a successful transaction, it is important to prepare before you create your listing.

  • Print and complete the Sell Your Vehicle Checklist − Save time by printing and completing our short and easy-to-use Sell Your Vehicle checklist to record all of your vehicle information before creating your eBay Motors listing. This checklist identifies all the information you'll need to sell your vehicle.

  • Review eBay Motors fees − Although eBay charges insertion fees and final value fees for eBay Motors listings, they are calculated differently than those on eBay.com. Get the details on the fees for selling on eBay Motors).

  • Be prepared to provide the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) − You must include the vehicle identification number (VIN) in your listing. If you are selling a vehicle that has a 17-digit VIN, you must provide the VIN in the VIN field during the first step of the Sell Your Item process. If your vehicle is older and has a VIN with fewer than 17 digits, you may include the VIN in the vehicle description field. The VIN is usually located on the dashboard and viewable through the windshield. The VIN is also often located on the door or engine and in your vehicle registration and title documents.

  • Know your vehicle history − If you're not the original owner, it's worthwhile to run a vehicle history report. We offer a free vehicle history report for all eligible listings. Make sure that any branded title or history of the vehicle (such as Flood or Salvage) is appropriately disclosed in the description. Even if you've got a current clean title, if there was a salvage title in the history, you must disclose it to buyers.

  • Review the applicable laws for both your state and the state of your trading partner −These include seller licensing rules, title requirements, emissions standards, and registration policies. Based on the physical location of the buyer or the seller, state consumer protection laws may apply to your transaction on eBay Motors and may limit what you can legally sell. For a list of websites, see Motors Regulations for U.S. States.

  • Review eBay's listing policies − These listing policies will help you properly list items. See our Vehicle, vehicle equipment and device listings policy).
