Managing your donation account

What is a donation account?

Your Donation Account in My eBay is the place you can keep track of the nonprofit donations you've made by selling items through eBay for Charity and donating with Give At Checkout or Donate Now. You can also download and print receipts for your tax-deductible donations.

Viewing your donation account

To view your donation account:
  1. Go to My eBay. You may be asked to sign in.

  2. Place your pointer over the Account tab, and then select Donation Account.

  3. On the My Summary page you'll see a snapshot of your eBay for Charity activity.

Viewing your donations due

To see your Donations Due page:
  1. Go to My eBay. You may be asked to sign in.

  2. Place your pointer over the Account tab, and then select Donation Account.

  3. Select the Donations Due link on the left side of the page.

Your Donations Due page shows all the charitable donations that you owe based on your selling activity. PayPal Giving Fund automatically collects your donations due from the charity payment method you selected. Donations are collected on the 4th Monday after your listing ends. Donations are delivered to the nonprofit organization that the seller specified on the donation delivery date.

Any donation marked as Overdue indicates a problem with your selected charity payment method (for example, an invalid PayPal account) and requires immediate attention. While you will still be allowed to sell on eBay, you will not be allowed to donate a portion of any sale to charity if:

  • you have overdue donations, or

  • if your charity payment method is not set to PayPal within the Personal Information section of your Account in My eBay.

You can also make a one-time (manual) donation payment.

Viewing your donation history

To see your Donation History page:
  1. Go to My eBay. You may be asked to sign in.

  2. Place your pointer over the Account tab, and then select Donation Account.

  3. Click the Donation History & Tax Receipts link on the left side of the page.

Your Donation History page tracks the status of your eBay for Charity donations. You can also download a list of your donations to Excel and get tax receipts for completed donations.

By default, you'll see a list of your donations for the past 60 days. You can use the search and filter tools to see donations by:

  • Time period

  • Amount

  • Status

Your donation is delivered to the nonprofit organization on the donation delivery date. You can find the date for each donation by placing your pointer over the donation's status. The donation status descriptions are as follows:

Payment in process

You submitted the donation, but it has not been received by PayPal Giving Fund (if payment was by direct debit, check, or EFT)

Paid

Donation was received by PayPal Giving Fund

Refund pending

You requested a donation refund

Refunded

Full donation was returned to you by PayPal Giving Fund (usually the result of an unpaid item)

Partially refunded

Part of the donation was returned or waived by PayPal Giving Fund

Waived

Full donation was waived by PayPal Giving Fund (similar to a refund, for donations that were not paid yet)

Delivered

PayPal Giving Fund delivered the donation to the nonprofit organization

Getting a tax receipt

A tax receipt is issued to you by PayPal Giving Fund for each completed donation. The receipt is available after the official donation date.

To get a tax receipt:
  1. Go to My eBay. You may be asked to sign in.

  2. Place your pointer over the Account tab, and then select Donation Account.

  3. Click the Donation History & Tax Receipts link on the left side of the page.

  4. Use the check boxes at the left to select the donations you want to include in your receipt.

  5. Click the Request a Tax Receipt button.

Note: If you would like a copy of this list for your records, click the Export to Excel button.

Every eBay for Charity donation has an official donation date. This is the date that your donation was paid. Your tax deduction must be claimed with the IRS for the year when the donation was paid. This official date appears on the tax receipt provided by PayPal Giving Fund. To find out the specific tax requirements for documenting donations, consult a tax professional.

Authorizing PayPal Giving Fund to manage your donations

You can go to Site Preferences in My eBay to make sure PayPal Giving Fund is authorized to manage your donation account. Here's how:

  1. Go to My eBay. You may be asked to sign in.

  2. Place your pointer over the Account tab, and then select Site Preferences.

  3. Scroll to Third-party authorizations in the General Preferences section, and then click the Show link.

  4. Confirm that PayPal Giving Fund is authorized on your behalf.

Note: To revoke the PayPal Giving Fund authorization, select the Revoke this authorization check box. If you revoke the authorization, you won't be able to make donations through the eBay for Charity program.

Deciding how eBay for Charity can use your contact information

When you make a donation through eBay for Charity, we share your contact information with the nonprofit. If you'd prefer to keep your contact information private, you can change your eBay Preferences. Here's how:

  1. Go to My eBay. You may be asked to sign in.

  2. Place your pointer over the Account tab, and then select Site Preferences.

  3. In the Selling Preferences section, scroll to eBay for Charity and then click the Show link.

  4. Clear the Yes check box.

  5. Click the Apply button.

Specifying your donation payment method

When you start selling with eBay for Charity you need to put a payment method on file for making donations. By default, your donation payment method is the same as your automatic payment method for paying eBay fees. The following chart describes how payment methods are handled:

If your fees payment method and donation payment method are the same

We'll keep these two payment methods in sync so that if you change your fees payment method your donation payment method will automatically be changed, too.

If your fees payment method and donation payment method are different

The two payment methods are not automatically kept in sync. You'll need to update your donation payment method as needed.

You can only have one donation payment method on file at a time. If you add a new method, the old one will be deleted.

To update your Charity payment method:
  1. Go to My eBay. You may be asked to sign in.

  2. Select the Account tab, and then select Personal Information.

  3. Locate the Charity payment method section at the bottom of the Financial Information section.

  4. You'll see an option for editing the charity payment method. This must be a PayPal account.

  5. Click the Edit button next to the charity payment method you want to put on file. (You may be asked to sign in to both your eBay and PayPal accounts here. If you do not have one, you can create a new PayPal account on the landing page that is displayed.)

  6. Provide the information requested, and then click the Agree and Continue button.

Note: If you have overdue donations, PayPal Giving Fund will collect them automatically as soon as you've selected your new donation payment method.
