Using Marketing Tools

In this article

By promoting your items—showing buyers the right items at the right time—buyers have more options during their shopping experience. Showing other items can help you sell more items per buyer, and sell to more buyers. Your items appear with thousands of other listings and in emails to drive traffic to your listings and your Store.

To help buyers find what they're looking for, we may show relevant items from other sellers on your listing. We'll give preference to listings that:

Your qualifying items will automatically appear on other relevant listings. This gives your listings more exposure in a prominent place.

Where buyers see your promoted items

Buyers can see your other listings in several places:

  • Listings: Related, qualifying listings may appear on other sellers' listings. (Note: Other sellers' listings may also be displayed on your listings.)They may also appear on your open or closed listings.

  • Emails: Your listings may be included in emails sent to buyers when the item they bought or bid on is no longer available, or in emails for watched items.

  • Checkout: When a buyer places a bid or chooses Buy It Now for one of your items, they'll see up to 12 of your other items

  • My eBay: Your listings will appear in My eBay.

Updating Marketing Tools settings

If you don't use Marketing Tools to cross-promote or promote similar items, your listings will not be promoted anywhere else on eBay. To ensure that as many buyers as possible have an opportunity to see your listings, make sure you update your Marketing Tools settings.

By default, your Marketing Tools are automatically enabled. If you need to, you can update your Marketing Tools settings in My eBay.

To cross-promote your item:
  1. Go to My eBay. You may be asked to sign in.

  2. Place your pointer over the Account tab, and click the Marketing Tools link.

  3. Below the Cross-Promotion heading on the left side of the page, click the Settings link.

  4. Select the Cross-promote my items option (if it isn't pre-selected).

  5. Click the Apply button. Your selection will apply to any listings you create in the future.

To promote similar items on related listings:
  1. Go to My eBay. You may be asked to sign in.

  2. Place your pointer over the Account tab, and then click the Marketing Tools link.

  3. Click the Promote Similar Listings link. You may be asked to sign in again.

  4. Select the Promote my items option.

  5. Click the Add promotions button. Your selection will apply to any listings you create in the future.

Canceling Marketing Tools settings

If you don't want other sellers' items to appear on your listings, you need to cancel both your cross-promotions and similar items promotions in My eBay. This will remove related items from your listings, and your relevant items will no longer appear on other related listings. Your items will only be shown on pages directly related to your listings. This change will apply to all new listings you create.

First, cancel your cross-promotions:
  1. Go to My eBay. You may be asked to sign in.

  2. Place your pointer over the Account tab, and then click the Marketing Tools link.

  3. Below the Cross-Promotion heading on the left side of the page, click the Settings link.

  4. Select the Do not cross-promote my items option.

  5. Click the Apply button. Your selection will apply to any listings you create in the future.

Then, cancel your similar items promotions:
  1. Go to My eBay. You may be asked to sign in.

  2. Place your pointer over the Account tab, and then click the Marketing Tools  link.

  3. Click the Promote Similar Listings link. You may be asked to sign in again.

  4. Select the Do not promote my items option.

  5. Click the Add promotions button. Your selection will apply to any listings you create in the future.
