What is eBay Giving Works?
eBay Giving Works is the dedicated program for charity listings on eBay, enabling
you to list items and donate part or all of the final sale price to certified
nonprofit organizations.
What are the key benefits?
eBay Giving Works listings tend to sell more often and at higher final prices,
because buyers are more willing to purchase and often pay more for items that
benefit a nonprofit. You can enhance buyer loyalty by aligning with a cause, and
you will receive a receipt for your tax-deductible donations.
Your charity listings:
- Receive additional visibility through specialized charity search functionality reserved exclusively for eBay Giving Works listings.
- Stand out with a distinctive icon
in the title bar of the listing both in search results and on the view item page, and donation information in the item description, instilling buyer trust and confidence.
- Are eligible for the eBay Giving Works Fee Credit Policy if the item sells.
Who is MissionFish?
eBay selected MissionFish, a licensed nonprofit service of the Points of Light Foundation, to serve as the dedicated solution provider for eBay Giving Works. MissionFish's valuable service and support includes: powering the nonprofit directory, verifying that nonprofits are eligible for this program, collecting and disbursing sellers' donations, providing sellers with tax receipts, and tracking donations online.
How can I create an eBay Giving Works listing and are there any special requirements or conditions?
In the Pictures & Details section of the Sell Your Item form on eBay, click the "Add" link in the "Donate percentage of sale" area to select a nonprofit beneficiary and to designate your donation percentage. Once you have made your selections, complete the Sell Your Item form and submit your listing.
Note: After you have created your eBay Giving Works listing, you can increase the percentage of your donation, but you cannot reduce it nor can you change the designated nonprofit.
Sellers may list with eBay Giving Works if they:
- Use the Sell Your Item form on eBay and enable JavaScript in their browsers.
eBay Giving Works is also supported by Turbo Lister and Channel Advisor, enabling
high-volume sellers to create eBay Giving Works with a listing tool. If eBay
Giving Works is not supported by your favorite listing tool, please consult with
the application provider.
- Register with MissionFish and maintain an account in good standing.
Note: The first time you create an eBay Giving Works listing, you will be
prompted to register with MissionFish (if you have not already done so) after you
have selected a nonprofit beneficiary. You will need to provide your credit card
information to guarantee payment of your donation, and you must consent to terms
in the MissionFish User Agreement. You will only have to complete this
registration process once.
- Agree to donate at least 10% of the final sale price or $5 per transaction -
whichever is greater - to a certified nonprofit organization if the item sells.
Note: The minimum donation requirement does not apply to nonprofits selling
items on their own behalf (Direct Selling) after you have entered your eBay User ID
as a Direct Seller in your Nonprofit My MissionFish account.
- Select PayPal or credit card as one of the buyer payment options.
Note: This is not required for listings in the Motors or Real Estate
categories or for Direct Selling.
- Do not list the item in the Real Estate ad format or Mature Audiences category.
Note: The nonprofit that you select has the right to request an item cancellation if they prefer not to benefit from your listing.
Note: Charitable fundraising is subject to numerous state and federal laws. eBay has partnered with MissionFish to make listing for charity easy and has created very specific guidelines for allowing charitable solicitations on eBay. If you choose not to participate in the eBay Giving Works program but would like to donate all or a portion of your final sale price to a nonprofit that you will reference in your listing, you must obtain advanced written consent for the solicitation from the nonprofit and include a scanned version of this written consent in your listing. Learn more about the charity listing policy.
How is my donation collected and when will the nonprofit receive it?
Both eBay and MissionFish are committed to accountability and transparency in the management of donated funds. MissionFish, a licensed nonprofit service of the Points of Light Foundation, will have the sole responsibility of collecting donations from sellers and redistributing the funds to benefiting nonprofits.
After your item sells, collect payment from your buyer as usual. MissionFish will send you an email notification that includes the exact donation amount due and payment instructions. A credit card is the fastest and easiest way to pay your donation; however, MissionFish also accepts payments by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) and bank-certified checks for donations greater than $1,000.
If you do not fulfill your donation commitment by the second Monday after your listing ends, MissionFish will charge your credit card. MissionFish then forwards the gift (minus a small deduction to cover processing costs) to the designated nonprofit on the 20th of the second month after your listing has ended.
You will have the opportunity to opt-out of your ability to request a donation refund when you make your donation payment - if you choose to do this, your donation will be sent to your selected nonprofit in the next payment cycle.
A receipt for every donation that you make from the sale of an eBay Giving Works listing is available when you access My Donations in your My MissionFish account.
Are there additional fees to list an eBay Giving Works item?
All items on eBay are subject to the same standard selling fees. There are no additional fees for sellers to create eBay Giving Works listings.
When MissionFish collects and disburses the donation, there
is a small amount deducted to cover processing costs. The deduction is based on
the following schedule.
| Donation Amount |
MissionFish Deduction |
| $5.00 - $49.99 |
20% of the donation |
| $50.00 - $199.99 |
15% of the donation above $50
(+) $10 from the first tier (20%) |
| $200.00 - $999.99 |
10% of the donation above $200
(+) $32.50 from the first two tiers (20%, 15%) |
| $1,000 - $4,999.99 |
5% of the donation above $1,000
(+) $112.50 from the first three tiers (20%, 15%, 10%) |
| $5,000+ |
3% of the donation above $5,000
(+) $312.50 from the first four tiers (20%, 15%, 10%, 5%)
* If the seller pays by check or EFT, the deduction is only 1.5% of the donation above $5,000
|
Note: In Direct Selling, nonprofits collect funds directly from their buyers. MissionFish does not process donations for these transactions, and there are subsequently no deductions.
What is the eBay Giving Works Fee Credit Policy?
When you create an eBay Giving Works listing, and the item sells, eBay
will credit the Insertion and Final Value Fees back to you, equal to
the percentage of the final sale price that you had elected to donate.
Note: The fee credit will not be immediately reflected in your invoice. You will receive a credit to your account approximately six to eight weeks after the listing ends.
