Setting up automatic payments
In this article

When you start selling on eBay, you need to select an automatic payment method for any seller fees you are charged. If you prefer, you can also become ID verified to confirm your identity. You can change your payment method anytime.

For information on payment requirements, late fees, and payment schedules, see Your payment due date .

To learn about one-time payments, see Making a one-time payment .

If you have any credits on your account, they will be applied to your payment for each invoice. If you don’t want to apply your credits to your payment, you can change your seller billing preferences in My eBay.  With this change, any credits applied to your account after we create an invoice will apply to next month's invoice amount. This setting does not affect payments, which will always apply to your payment deduction amount.

Paying with PayPal

PayPal is a safe, convenient way to pay your eBay seller fees automatically. When you set up automatic PayPal payment, your seller fees are automatically deducted from your PayPal account no sooner than 10 days after you receive your invoice.

How automatic PayPal payments work
  1. PayPal withdraws funds from your PayPal account balance.

  2. If there are insufficient funds in the PayPal account, PayPal uses the funding source you selected when you signed up for automatic PayPal payments.

  3. If you didn’t select a preferred funding source during that process, PayPal uses whatever PayPal funding source you've provided.

Changing your PayPal funding source for your seller fees

You can change your PayPal funding source for eBay seller fees at any time. To ensure that new information is used for an invoice payment, please update the account before the end of your billing cycle (either the end of the month or the 15th of the month).

To specify your funding source:
  1. From the PayPal home page, log in to your PayPal account.

  2. Click the Profile tab.

  3. In the Financial Information column, click the Preapproved Payments link.

  4. Click the Edit Funding Source link to change your funding sources.

  5. Click the Save button.

If a payment from this preferred funding source fails, (for example, the credit card expires), the eBay invoice amount can be paid from other available funding sources.

Note: You can specify funding sources that you don't want to use for Automatic Payments from the Preapproved Payments page in your PayPal Profile.

Paying by direct pay

If you prefer, we’ll automatically deduct your seller fees from your checking account on the same day each month. The day is based on the date you’re invoiced. This option is available to sellers who have U.S. bank accounts and are billed in U.S. dollars. If you select this option, you’ll need to provide your routing and checking account numbers.

Checking accounts are billed no sooner than the 20th of the month if you're invoiced at the end of the month, and no sooner than the 5th of the following month if you're invoiced in the middle of the month. See Your payment due date.

You can update your checking account information any time. To ensure that the new information is used for an invoice payment, please update the account before the end of your billing cycle (either the end of the month or the 15th of the month).

To remove your checking account from your eBay seller’s account, see Removing a payment method from your account.

Paying by credit card

We accept the following credit cards:

  • Visa

  • MasterCard

  • Discover

  • American Express

Your credit card is usually charged 5 to 7 days after you receive your invoice. Learn more about eBay account invoices and payment schedules.

You can update the credit card on file for automatic payments at any time by going to the Place or update your credit card on file page. To ensure that the new information is used for an invoice payment, please update the credit card before the end of your billing cycle (either the end of the month or the 15th of the month).

To remove a credit card from your account, see Removing a payment method from your account.

Note: To ensure that the new information is used for an invoice payment, please update the account before the end of your billing cycle (either the end of the month or the 15th of the month). For your payment schedule, see Your payment due date.

Changing your payment method

To change your automatic payment method for your next invoice:
  1. Go to My eBay.

  2. Click the Account tab.

  3. In the Payment methods for Seller Fees section, click the Change link under the Automatic payment method heading.

  4. Select PayPal, Direct Pay, or credit card, and then click the Set up Automatic Payments button.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Note: For Selling Manager applications, PayPal is currently the only payment method used.

Removing payment information from your account

To remove your payment method information, go to your Seller Account page in My eBay, and click the Remove automatic payment method link.

You may continue to accrue fees for any listings you have on the site, as well as monthly fees for any active subscriptions such as eBay Stores. Be sure to cancel any subscriptions if you want to close your account.

If you have an outstanding balance, you can make a one-time payment before you remove your payment information.

Paying for Selling Manager applications

You make payments for Selling Manager applications directly to the developer of the application. eBay facilitates the payment process by helping you set up your automatic payment method when you subscribe to the application, and by showing your statement for each application you’ve subscribed to on My eBay.

To view your statement in My eBay:
  1. Go to My eBay.

  2. Place your mouse pointer over the Account tab, and click Seller Account.

  3. Select the application whose statement you want to view from the Account ID drop-down list.
