Checking the status of your payments for items

After you purchase an eBay item you can check the status of your payment to the seller in My eBay. If you're not sure if you've paid for your item yet, you can find that out, too.

Checking to see if you've paid

If you've purchased an eBay item, but can't remember whether or not you've paid, you can check in My eBay.

To see if you've paid:
  1. Go to My eBay.

  2. Click the Won link on the left side of the page.

  3. Locate your item. If the Paid icon is blue, you've paid for your item. If the icon is gray, you may need to make payment or update your payment status.

    Tip: Place your pointer over the Paid icon (dollar sign). A small box will appear with the current status of your payment.

Updating the status of a payment you've sent

If you paid for the item by clicking the Pay Now button or if the seller marks the payment as received in My eBay, the status of the item will automatically update in My eBay. However, if you've paid by another payment method, you'll need to manually mark your payment as sent.

To mark your payment as sent:
  1. Go to My eBay.

  2. Click the Won link on the left side of the page.

  3. Locate your item, and select Mark as payment sent from the Actions drop-down menu.

Note: If you manually mark the item as payment sent, the seller isn't automatically notified. Select Contact seller from the Actions drop-down menu to send the seller an explaining email that you've sent your payment.

If you've accidentally marked your payment as sent, you can unmark it so you can pay through My eBay.

To unmark your payment as sent:
  1. Go to My eBay.

  2. Click the Won link on the left side of the page.

  3. Locate your item, and select Unmark as payment sent from the Actions drop-down menu.

You can then pay for the item by clicking Pay now link.

Checking to see if a payment you sent has cleared

If you've paid through PayPal, you can see if your payment has cleared.

To check the status of a PayPal payment:
  1. Go to My eBay.

  2. Click the Won link on the left side of the page.

  3. Locate your item, and select View PayPal transaction from the Actions drop-down menu. You may be asked to log into PayPal.

If there isn't a View PayPal transaction link, or if you have other questions about your payment, contact your seller to ask about the status of your payment.

What is an unclaimed payment?

If a payment you sent has an unclaimed status, this usually means one of the following things has happened:

  • The seller didn't sign up for PayPal using the same email address that you used to send the money. In this case, the seller just needs to add this email address to his or her account and confirm the new email address.

  • The seller hasn't confirmed his or her email address. Any payments sent to an account won't appear in the account balance until the user has done this.

  • The seller needs to manually claim this payment.
