Setting up your seller fees payment method
When you create a seller's account, you link your seller account to your preferred selling fees payment method. eBay can automatically debit or credit your seller account as you list, make a sale, or need to be reimbursed.
To change your seller fee payment method:Click the Account tab and select "Seller Account."
Under "Seller fees," click the Change link for the payment method you want to change.
To get a refund for credits in your seller account, see Requesting a refund from eBay (for sellers).
Setting up your buyer payment preferences
How you set up your buyer payment options depends on each method and what you list. For most item categories, you need to offer buyers at least one online payment or merchant credit card option – this is often the fastest and most convenient method for buyers and sellers. Cash isn't allowed for most listings with the exception of the "Payment upon pickup" option and certain categories.
First things first
Before you set up or change your payment preferences, take a look at Selecting payment methods you'll accept and our accepted payments policy to choose the options that are best for you.
All electronic payment methods require you to use eBay's Checkout. When you use Checkout and one of the eBay-approved online payment methods, your buyer sees the Pay Now button in their email notification and in their My eBay messages. When the buyer clicks Pay Now, selects one of the payment methods you offer, and pays you, your processor handles the payment, you receive notification that you've been paid, and you can ship your item.
Checkout is set up as a default when you create a seller’s account. To be sure Checkout is on:
Place your cursor over the Account tab and select Site Preferences.
Below Selling Preferences > Payment from buyers, click the Show link.
On the Payment Preferences page, select "Use Checkout."
Read more about using eBay Checkout.
To register with PayPal and link it to your eBay account:Click My eBay at the top of most eBay pages.
Click the PayPal Account link on the left side of the page.
Click the Link My PayPal Account button.
Log in to PayPal to finish linking your accounts as directed.
Once you've signed up with PayPal, it appears as an option when you create a listing. When you select PayPal, buyers see it in your listing. You'll also see it under your payment preferences in My eBay.
To register with Moneybookers, ProPay, or Paymate, and link them to your eBay account:Go to their registration pages and follow their instructions:
The processors you set up appear as options when you create a listing. When you select those options, buyers see them in your listing.
To change your buyer payment preferences:Place your cursor over the Account tab and select Site Preferences.
Below Selling Preferences > Payment from buyers, click the Show link.
On the Payment Preferences page, select or deselect your options.
Be sure to select "Use Checkout."
Select the payment options you want to offer. For most listings, this can include:
Credit and debit card payments (if you already accept credit cards through your Internet merchant account, have Checkout enabled, and have signed up for a free Payflow payment gateway account)
Setting up the Payflow payment gateway for your Internet merchant account
If you already accept credit and debit cards through an Internet merchant account, you'll register for the free Payflow payment gateway account for eBay sellers and use Checkout to accept buyer payments.
Payflow payment gateway lets buyers securely send credit and debit card payments to your Internet merchant account. The buyer clicks Pay Now in their email notification or item listing and then enters their credit card information. Payflow securely transmits the buyer's credit card information to your Internet merchant account, and you're notified of your payment.
Note: Before opening a new Internet merchant account to accept credit cards through eBay Checkout, take a look at all payment options. Unless you sell at high volume, the transaction fees charged by your credit card processor may be higher than what you'd pay for the other online payment methods.
To sign up for Payflow:Have this information ready:
Account details for your Internet merchant account with your bank or a merchant credit card processor
A credit card to verify your processor settings
In My eBay, click the Account tab and select "Site Preferences."
In the Selling Preferences > Payment from buyers section, click the “Show” link, and then the “Edit” link. The Payment Preferences page opens.
Below Payment Method Options, under Merchant Credit Card preferences, click the “Sign up for Payflow payment gateway” link.
On the "Accept credit cards" page, click the Register with Payflow button.

Select the credit cards you'll accept through this processor.
Enter information for a credit card you'll accept and that's accepted by your processor. Your credit card won't be charged. We use this information to test that everything works properly before it becomes part of your Checkout process.
Review your information and confirm that your registration information is correct.
Check all the boxes to agree to accept our user agreement and privacy policies.
Click the Register button.
Within a few hours, you'll receive a confirmation email that your Payflow gateway account is set up and ready for use.
Note: If there's a problem, you'll be asked to sign in to complete your Payflow account registration. This may include sending a test authorization to verify that your account is set up correctly. Be sure your email address is current in your eBay account settings. If you need to update your address, see Changing your account information.
When you've got your Payflow payment gateway account set up and Checkout is enabled, buyers have the option of paying you online by credit card.
The fine print
Existing Payflow payment gateway accounts can't be used for eBay transactions. To accept credit or debit card payments on eBay, you need to set up an additional Payflow account for eBay sales.
The Payflow gateway service is free for eBay sellers, although your usual merchant credit card transaction fees still apply.
When your Payflow payment gateway account is set up, your payment preferences show up in any new listings you create, but not in any of your existing listings or listing templates. You can update your existing listings using revise your item.
Payflow is governed by PayPal’s user agreement and privacy policies, but isn't linked with your PayPal account. You don't need to have a PayPal account to use Payflow on eBay.
