Buying with the Buy It Now option

Buy It Now is the simplest way to buy on eBay. When you see the icon next to a listing, or see a Buy It Now price in a listing, the seller gives you the opportunity to purchase the item right away at a set price without waiting for the auction to end.

Types of listings

These types of listings have a Buy It Now price:

  • Auctions with a Buy It Now option: You can choose to place a bid and compete in the auction or use Buy It Now to purchase the item immediately. For some listings the Buy It Now option is only available until the first bid is placed.

  • Reserve price auctions with a Buy It Now option: The Buy It Now option is shown until the reserve price is met. This means that when you see that an item has both a Buy It Now price and one or more bids, you’ll need to act quickly.

  • Buy It Now price only (no bidding): You can purchase the item right away at the Buy It Now price.

  • Multi-quantity listings with variations: Some listings have variations to choose from, such as T-shirts that come in various sizes or colors.  Specify the variations and quantity you want before you click the Buy It Now button.

Shipping costs

If shipping and handling charges are not included in the Buy It Now price, use one of these methods to determine shipping costs:

  • Contact the seller to determine the total price of the item including shipping and any other charges.

  • Check the item’s description for shipping and handling information and to find whether the seller has specified that immediate payment is required.

  • If the listing is a Pay Now and Buy It Now item, the seller requires immediate payment, so the shipping cost and other charges will be displayed in the listing description.

How to purchase items using Buy It Now

  1. Look for items with a Buy It Now price by clicking the Buy It Now only tab on search results or browse pages.

  2. Check the Buy It Now price of the item. This is the price you'll pay for the item. Also check the shipping cost and any other additional costs that might be listed in the item description to know the total cost for the item.

  3. To purchase the item, click the Buy It Now button in the listing.

    Important: For Buy It Now items that have both a bid price and a Buy It Now price, the Buy It Now price is only available for a limited time.

  4. Enter your User ID and password. A Buy It Now confirmation message opens.

  5. Select a payment method and pay for the item.
