When you register on eBay, you have the option of registering as a business. To register as a business, click on the "Want to open an account for your company?" link on the eBay registration page. The process and the information required essentially the same as registering as an individual member, with the added advantage of being able to add your business name to your account. See Registering on eBay for a step-by-step guide to the registration process. Important: Be sure to complete all required information, as well as your business name.
If you already have an individual account, you can change your account to a business account.
Deciding to register as a business
Registering as a business offers the advantages of having an identifiable name and having the opportunity to build your reputation as a seller.
If you aren’t sure whether you should register as a business, contact your legal advisor to help determine whether to operate as a business and to learn more about your legal obligations as a business seller.
You might want to choose a business account if you:
Sell items that you have bought to resell.
Sell items you have produced yourself to sell.
Sell a large number of items on a regular basis.
Sell new items that you have not acquired for your personal use.
Sell items as a trading assistant.
Buy items for your business.
Advantages of a business account
When you register as a business, you can:
Register using your company name, which is displayed in all communication with your buyers, such as invoices and emails.
Provide the value-added tax (VAT) percentage to buyers by using the Sell Your Item form if you are based outside the U.S. and Canada.
Receive net invoices for our fees by providing us with your VAT identification number.
Realize tax advantages in many cases. Be sure you check with your accountant or legal advisor.
Changing your account type
If you have already registered, you can change your account type.
To change your account type from individual to business: Click the "Personal Information" link in the Account tab.
Click the "Edit" link next to Account Type.
On the Change Account Type page, select the "Business" option, and click the Continue button.
Enter your business name and Click the Change to Business Account button.
Make sure you update your registered name with a personal contact name.
