Changing your user ID

In this article

When you register with eBay, you choose a user ID to identify yourself when you sign in, and when you bid, buy, or sell.

How to change your user ID

Go to the change user ID page and enter the new user ID you'd like to use. Get tips on what's allowed and not allowed in a user ID.

For future reference, to change your user ID or other account information:
  1. Click My eBay at the top of most eBay pages.

  2. Click the Account tab.

  3. Click the "Personal Information" link on the left side of the page.

  4. Click the "Edit" link to the right of the information you want to change.

What happens when you change your user ID

  • Your new ID automatically replaces your old ID wherever it appears on eBay. All your member and account information, including your Feedback score, will be transferred to your new user ID.

  • The "Changed ID" icon User ID has been changed within the last 30 days will appear next to your user ID for 30 days.

  • Your old user ID can't be used by anyone else at eBay for 30 days.

  • You can change your user ID only once in 30 days. This helps prevent confusion for other members.

  • Along with your Feedback profile, your user ID represents your reputation on eBay. Over time, you can build your reputation into a valuable business asset, so it's a good idea to choose a user ID you'll want to use long-term.

Tip: If you forget your user ID, try using your registered email address.
