We're expanding managed payments with new payment options and features

In 2018, we announced our commitment to simplifying the buying and selling experience on eBay with managed payments, which will enable you to manage your payments information and operations all in one place on eBay, and offer buyers more ways to pay when they purchase your items. Managed payments is currently available on a limited, invitation-only basis and we will expand the experience to more sellers in the future.

We'll continue to add new payment options to existing methods that already include credit cards, debit cards, gift cards, and ApplePay. We recently added Google Pay to managed payments, and we are now making PayPal and PayPal Credit available. We're starting small and, in the coming weeks, we'll continue to test and scale PayPal to ensure a seamless and successful seller and buyer experience.

More ways to pay for buyers, a streamlined experience for sellers

In today's retail environment, shoppers expect to be able to use their preferred payment methods when they check out. We're creating a modern marketplace by providing buyers with a full spectrum of payment options based on the countries they reside in, devices they shop from, and items they purchase. As we expand to more markets we'll continue to add relevant forms of payment for our buyers.

Managed payments also simplifies the selling experience. Because we manage the entire payments process, you’ll have more time to focus on streamlining and expanding your business.

Easier order management with order numbers

Starting in summer 2019, we'll introduce a more user-friendly order number format than the one we use in our current APIs. We'll attach the updated order numbers to each transaction on eBay, which will follow the transactions through their entire life cycles. The updated order numbers will appear in the "order details" section of your View Order Details page, Seller Hub, reports, emails, APIs, post-transaction records, and other locations, over time, so you can efficiently track and manage your orders.

Additional support for seller refunds

Starting in July 2019, you will also be able to issue a refund to a buyer for a percentage of the order amount of your choice, up to 100%. You can do this directly from Seller Hub or our APIs. This feature will give you flexibility to manage refunds in addition to how you manage cancellation requests or send a partial refund through a return request today.

  • What are the upcoming enhancements to managed payments by eBay?

  • What forms of payments are now available to buyers who would like to purchase from managed payments sellers?

    Buyers can currently safely and securely purchase from managed payments sellers with credit cards, debit cards, gift cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay, and we are now making PayPal available. We are starting small and, in the coming weeks, we will continue to test and scale PayPal to ensure a seamless and successful seller and buyer experience. Buyers can complete their entire transactions on eBay, with the option to save and store their card information for future use. Their experience will be similar to that of other online retailers.

  • How did you determine which sellers will be able to participate first?

    We selected sellers based on a variety of criteria including sales volume, seller location, percentage of business conducted domestically versus internationally, seasonality of sales, and categories.

  • What do managed payments sellers need to do to add new features?

    Sellers who opt in to managed payments do not need to take any action. New methods of payment and features will be added automatically.

  • How is the PayPal experience changing?

    The change will provide a more streamlined and efficient buying experience. Buyers will be redirected to PayPal to approve their payments just as they do on all other ecommerce websites. You do not need to take any action. All buyer payments will continue to be paid directly into your bank account.

  • How will my “after the sale” experience change?

    As always, you will continue to handle all return, "item not received", and cancellation requests from buyers in the Resolution Center or Seller Hub. In addition to requests started on eBay, we will also show you any payment disputes requiring your attention that a buyer may have started elsewhere, including disputes from PayPal or card providers.
