General FAQs
What is Secure Purchase?
Secure Purchase makes buying and selling vehicles safer and easier by handling many of the complexities of a vehicle transaction, including paperwork, transfer of ownership, financing, transportation and more. Depending on the vehicle type and how buyers choose to complete the transaction, buyers have the option to add financing, delivery, protection, and insurance.
Secure Purchase is powered by and made possible by the services provided of Caramel Dealer Services, LLC, an eBay subsidiary.
Who is Caramel Dealer Services/CDS Auto Sales?
Caramel Dealer Services, LLC, or DBA CDS Auto Sales, is an eBay subsidiary and licensed used vehicle dealer that facilitates certain transactions through Secure Purchase.
As a seller, who will I be selling my car to?
The transaction type depends on how the buyer chooses to complete the transaction and the type of vehicle being sold. In some cases, you’ll sell directly to the buyer. In others, Caramel Dealer Services, LLC—a licensed automotive dealer—will purchase the vehicle from you on the buyer’s behalf.
As a buyer, who will I be buying my car from?
The transaction type depends on the vehicle type and how you choose to complete the transaction. You’ll either buy directly from the seller or from Caramel Dealer Services—a licensed automotive dealer who facilitates the sale on your behalf.
When does Caramel Dealer Services facilitate the transaction?
Caramel Dealer Services facilitates the transaction when the buyer chooses to finance the vehicle or have Caramel handle the title and registration. In this case, Caramel Dealer Services acts as the licensed dealer in the sale.
When does Caramel Dealer Services not facilitate the transaction?
The transaction happens directly between the buyer and seller when the buyer chooses not to finance the vehicle and opts to handle title and registration on their own—and when the vehicle type qualifies. Secure Purchase still supports the process by providing services such as identity verification, payment, and digital paperwork. These services are not currently available to buyers located in Florida.
The availability of the services and features depend on the transaction type, vehicle type, and state the buyer is located in. Not all transaction types qualify for Secure Purchase services.
Does Caramel Dealer Services charge a fee?
Yes, the buyer will pay a $25 service fee.
Can I cancel a sale anytime?
You can click the Cancel button underneath any transaction in your dashboard until the vehicle is delivered by the seller to the buyer.
For transactions facilitated by Caramel Dealer Services where document signing has occurred, late-sale cancellations are strongly discouraged. If a seller cancels the sale after the buyer has signed documents, a $250 cancellation fee will apply. At that point, the buyer may have already completed a hard credit inquiry and paid for insurance.
For transactions where Caramel Dealer Services is not facilitating document signing:
- If the buyer cancels after payment, the $25.00 service fee will not be refunded.
- If the seller cancels after payment, the $25.00 service fee will be refunded.
Why do I see Caramel Dealer Services or CDS Auto Sales in documents I’m signing?
Caramel Dealer Services, LLC (DBA CDS Auto Sales) is an eBay subsidiary and a licensed used vehicle dealer. When Caramel Dealer Services facilitates the transaction, its name appears on the documents to reflect its role in the sale.
Are all vehicle types eligible for Secure Purchase?
You can purchase and sell a wide range of vehicle types with the services of Secure Purchase, including:
- Cars
- Trucks
- Motorcycles
- ATVs
- Boats
- RVs
- Commercial vehicles
Note: Services offered—such as title and registration, financing, protection, and transport—vary based on the vehicle type and selected features.
Identity FAQs
How does identity verification work?
Caramel Dealer Services verifies the identity of every buyer and seller. Buyers are required to provide their driver’s license and take a selfie using the camera on their smart device. Sellers are required to provide a valid U.S. government-issued photo ID.
When Caramel Dealer Services is handling title and registration, buyers may also be asked a few follow-up questions, such as whether they are part of the military community. These questions help ensure the vehicle is registered correctly and any applicable discounts are applied.
What if I don’t pass the identity verification step?
If you don’t pass the identity verification step, you will not be able to move forward and your transaction will be canceled. You will be able to view why your identity was not verified.
Do I need a U.S. phone number?
Yes, a U.S.-based phone number is required.
Do I need a U.S. driver’s license?
If you’re a buyer, yes— a valid U.S. driver’s license is required. If you’re a seller, a driver’s license is accepted but not required. Any valid U.S. government-issued photo ID will work for identity verification.
Financing FAQs
Is financing required?
No. Financing is completely optional. If you prefer to pay for your vehicle in full using funds from your bank, you can simply select “Skip Financing.”
Please note: Financing may not be available for all applicants, vehicle types, or in all transactions. Availability depends on factors such as the vehicle category, price, and lender eligibility. Financing availability and approval are in the sole discretion of the third-party lender, not Caramel Dealer Services or eBay.
What information do I need to provide to see my monthly financing estimate?
You’ll need to provide your preferred down payment amount, preferred financing term, and estimated credit score. Then, you’ll see your estimated monthly payment (excluding taxes, fees, and add-ons), down payment, and APR. Your financing estimate is not considered a financing approval.
How do I select the down payment or term I want?
The down payment and financing term you enter in the financing estimator reflect your preferences and are submitted with your financing application. Caramel Dealer Services aims to match you with financing that aligns with your selections, but your final financing offer may vary based on your credit profile and the terms offered by third-party lending partners. Financing approval is at the discretion of the third-party lender. Not all customers or vehicles will qualify for financing.
Can I submit my lending application and then choose to skip financing?
Yes, you are not locked into financing by submitting a lending application. You can skip financing at any time.
Will submitting a lending application result in a hard credit check or impact my credit?
Yes, but only if you choose to submit a lending application. You’ll first see financing estimates without any impact to your credit. A hard credit check will only be performed if you click “I AGREE” on the lending application page. This step is required by third-party lending partners to process your application.
Who is my lender?
Caramel Dealer Services partners with large national banks and specialty lenders. You will be shown exactly who will provide your financing on the approval screen.
How are my financing terms determined?
Third-party lending providers independently review your application and approve you based on their own criteria. Credit history, income, and other factors can all play a role.
Are taxes and fees financed by my lender or do I pay them upfront?
Yes, taxes and fees are included in the total amount financed by your lender. While your initial financing approval amount does not reflect taxes and fees, they will be added later and will increase your financing balance and monthly payment from what was estimated. You’ll see the full, out-the-door payment amount—including taxes and fees—on your Price Breakdown before you set up payment.
What if I don’t have great credit?
Caramel Dealer Services can’t guarantee financing to every buyer, but lenders will attempt to provide options to customers with past credit issues, including those with low credit scores.
How do I make payments and manage my financing after I get my car?
After you get your vehicle, your lender will send a welcome letter with all of the info you need to set up autopay, make payments, and review account information. You can also click on the Previous Transactions section of your dashboard to find your lender’s contact information right away.
Can I pay off my financing early without penalty?
Yes, there is no penalty for early payments.
How quickly can I reapply for financing if I’ve been turned down?
While you cannot reapply for the same transaction, there are no restrictions to reapplying under a new transaction. However, it may make sense to wait 30 days so any changes in your profile that may impact your lending approval have time to process.
Protection FAQs
What is the Protection step?
The Protection step gives you the option to add a Vehicle Service Contract (VSC)—an extended warranty that helps cover many unexpected mechanical repairs. Offered by independent VSC providers, these contracts typically include breakdown coverage for various mechanical components, as well as added benefits like roadside assistance and towing. This step is optional but can provide extra peace of mind.
Exact coverage varies by vehicle, mileage, and the level of protection you choose, and you can click the “More Details” link on the Protection step to view specific coverage information.
Please note: Protection plans may not be available for all vehicle types or in every transaction. Availability depends on factors such as vehicle type, model, age, and mileage.
Is a vehicle service contract required?
No. A Vehicle Service Contract is completely optional. Simply select “Skip Protection.”
Is the vehicle service contract cancelable?
You can cancel anytime and receive a refund for the unused portion of your plan, provided you have not filed a claim. Simply go to your vehicle in the Previous Transactions section of your dashboard, click Protection, and dial the contact number provided to cancel your policy.
What if my vehicle still has any of its manufacturer’s warranty remaining?
Your vehicle manufacturer’s warranty is good until expired. The vehicle service contract runs concurrently and, depending upon the VSC term you choose, will pick up where the manufacturer’s warranty leaves off and may cover repairs excluded from your manufacturer.
I bought a vehicle service contract. Who do I contact for questions or claims?
Vehicle service contracts are provided by independent VSC providers who specialize in vehicle protection products. Go to the Previous Transactions section of your dashboard to find your vehicle and click Protection. There you’ll find your provider’s details and contact information to ask questions and make claims.
How does financing work with vehicle service contracts?
If you finance your car, you can usually finance a vehicle service contract as part of your monthly payment. You’ll automatically be given this option when available. If Caramel Dealer Services is unable to include the vehicle service contract in the amount financed by the vehicle lender, you will still be given an option to finance vehicle service contract products through a separate lending partner. In this case, you’ll be set up on autopay and receive a welcome letter after your purchase with a link to access account information and make changes.
Insurance FAQs
Is insurance required?
Buying insurance through Secure Purchase is completely optional. Simply select “Skip Insurance”. However, having insurance for your vehicle is required before you take ownership and legally operate the vehicle. You will be asked to complete and digitally sign an Agreement to Furnish form during your contract signing phase, and if Caramel Dealer Services is facilitating the transfer of the title and registration on your behalf, you will be asked to provide proof the vehicle is insured so we can submit that with your title and registration as required by states.
On the platform, you’ll be shown insurance policy quotes for your vehicle. To finalize coverage, you’ll need to call the number listed to make any necessary adjustments and bind the policy.
Does Caramel Dealer Services provide insurance itself or through separate carriers?
Caramel Dealer Services connects you to an independent insurance broker with access to over 100 carriers varying dramatically in size and specialty, and displays the best quote for you across three common coverage levels. Once you select one and proceed, you have the option to customize coverage to your exact specifications and view other quotes.
Can I add other cars and people to my policy?
You can. When you dial the number on the insurance screen, the agent you speak with will share updated quotes with any desired adjustments, including added cars and other household members.
What if none of the coverage levels or deductible amounts are right for me?
You can adjust your coverage as soon as you call the number on the insurance screen. You’ll have the ability to adjust your deductible and liability limits. Once set, you’ll receive an updated quote from the selected carrier.
What does “Property Damage Liability (“PDL”) Coverage” mean?
Property damage liability pays for property damage you cause someone else, up to the policy limits purchased. This coverage is mandated by law in some states and is typically required by lenders or leasing companies.
What does “Personal Injury Protection (“PIP”) Coverage” mean?
PIP insurance, also known as “no-fault” insurance, is required in certain states. It pays medical expenses, and, in some cases, lost wages and other damages, regardless of who is at fault in an accident.
What does “Physical Damage (“PD”) Coverage” mean?
Physical Damage Coverage (sometimes referred to as “Comprehensive and Collision” coverage) pays the cost of repairs or replacement of your car, minus your deductible. Comprehensive insurance covers damage to your car from events other than a collision, such as theft, fire, hail, or vandalism. Collision insurance covers damage to your car from an accident with another car or a physical object, such as a highway median, or curb. This coverage is typically required by lenders or leasing companies.
What does “Liability Coverage” mean?
Liability insurance coverage protects you financially if you’re responsible for someone else’s injuries or property damage. Liability coverage is mandated coverage by law in most states if you own and operate a vehicle on the highways, and generally comes standard with most vehicle insurance policies. One additional “liability” policy some states mandate is bodily injury liability insurance. Bodily injury liability coverage pays for bodily injury you cause someone else up to the policy limits purchased. Liability coverage does not pay for injuries to you or the people in your family. You can buy medical payments coverage for you and your family. Liability coverage does not pay for repairs or replacement of your car whether you are at fault or not.
To cover repair and replacement of your own car, you will need collision coverage for accident-related damage and comprehensive coverage for non-accident incidents, such as theft, vandalism, hitting an animal or storm damage.
What if I have a question about my insurance policy?
After completing the Insurance step, you will be emailed a copy of your policy details including your insurance ID card containing your insurance company contact information.
Payment FAQs
What is Plaid and how does it work?
Plaid is a trusted service that facilitates electronic payment transactions. Neither eBay nor Caramel Dealer Services has access to your bank account when you use Plaid. You’ll be guided to connect your bank using your login credentials. If you encounter any issues, you can manually enter your account and routing numbers—Plaid will send small deposits to verify your account. Once confirmed, the deposits are reversed and your account is connected. If you prefer not to use Plaid, wire transfer is also available as an alternative payment option during checkout.
What payment options do I have as a buyer?
Buyers have two payment options, depending on the total amount due at signing:
-
If the total due is under $25,000:
- Wire transfer (no fee): We’ll provide instructions after you sign your documents. You’ll then send the payment directly to Caramel.
- Instant payment (0.75% fee): This option is powered by Clerq and guarantees funds up to $25,000 for faster processing.
-
If the total due is $25,000 or more:
- Wire transfer is the only available option.
What payment options do I have as a seller?
Sellers can choose between two payment methods—wire transfer or Plaid:
- Wire transfer: Enter your bank’s wire details to receive payment. This method has a flat $25 fee.
-
Plaid: Connect your bank account securely. Depending on your bank, you may have the option to select your payment timing:
- Same-day ACH, or
-
Real-time payment (RTP)
- This method has a fee of 0.5% of the payout amount, capped at $100.
Note: If Caramel Dealer Services is not facilitating the transaction, wire transfer is the only available payment option for sellers, and sellers will not be charged a fee.
Will I be charged when I link my bank account?
No. You will not be charged and funds will not be withdrawn until you sign your documents in the Signature step.
How do I know the exact amount that I will be charged?
In your Price Breakdown, the total due at signing reflects the exact amount you’ll be charged. If you’re not financing the purchase, this amount will include the full purchase price of the vehicle, along with any optional add-ons you’ve selected. If you choose to finance the vehicle or a vehicle service contract, the total due at signing will include just the down payment for those financed items. When does my payment need to be initiated in order for me to be cleared the same day? Your “Same Day ACH” must be submitted and approved before 12:00 PM PT on a business day in order to be sent with a same-day effective date. Otherwise, it will be sent the following business day.
Can I pay in person?
No, buyers must choose between instant payment or wire transfer. Both methods ensure funds are released to the seller at exactly the right moment, offering protection for both buyers and sellers.
Can I use my credit card to make my purchase?
Credit cards are not accepted.
What DMV, title, and registration fees am I being charged?
If you choose to have Caramel facilitate the transfer of the vehicle title and registration for you, Caramel Dealer Services passes through DMV fees to you at no markup. These are the fees you pay to transfer your title and register your car, whether or not you use Secure Purchase.
Will I be refunded if my seller or I cancel?
As long as your transaction is canceled before the vehicle is picked up by you or your transporter, you’ll receive a full refund, which typically takes 7–10 business days, depending on your bank’s processing time. After the vehicle is picked up, the sale is no longer cancellable.
For transactions where Caramel Dealer Services is not facilitating title and registration:
- If the buyer cancels after making payment, the $25 service fee is non-refundable.
- If the seller cancels after the buyer has paid, the $25 service fee will be refunded to the buyer.
Once I link my bank account, when will I be paid?
For transactions where Caramel Dealer Services handles title and registration:
- For vehicles priced under $100,000, you’ll receive full payment within two business days of Caramel receiving and verifying your title.
-
For vehicles priced at $100,000 or more, payment is split:
- 50% within two business days of vehicle pickup confirmation
- 50% within two business days of Caramel receiving and or verifying the title, whichever comes first
For transactions where Caramel Dealer Services is not handling title and registration:
-
For vehicles priced under $100,000, you’ll receive full payment within two business days after the buyer confirms title receipt.
- At pickup, the seller hands the title directly to the buyer.
-
At delivery, the seller places the title securely inside the vehicle (e.g., glovebox).
-
A photo showing the title in the vehicle may be used to confirm title delivery.
-
For vehicles priced at $100,000 or more, payment is split:
- 50% within two business days of the buyer confirming vehicle delivery
-
50% within two business days of the buyer confirming title receipt If the buyer confirms vehicle delivery but not title receipt, payment is held until the issue is resolved.
- If you’re a dealer seller, consult your account manager for specific payment timing related to your agreement.
How will I be paid?
In the Payment step, you will connect your preferred bank account using Plaid for payments. If you prefer not to use Plaid, you also have the option to receive payment via wire transfer. Simply select this option and enter your wire instructions directly. In-person payments are not allowed.
Note: If Caramel Dealer Services is not facilitating the transaction, Wire Transfer is the only available payment option for sellers.
How do I know the exact amount that I will be paid?
In your Price Breakdown, the amount listed under “You’ll be Paid” is the exact amount that you will be paid.
As a seller, am I charged anything if I cancel?
If Caramel Dealer Services is facilitating title and registration, you are only charged a $250 cancellation fee if you cancel after your buyer has signed their documents. At this point, the buyer may have already completed a hard credit inquiry and paid for insurance.
If Caramel Dealer Services is not facilitating title and registration, both parties sign the services agreement at the same time. If the seller cancels at any point during the process, the buyer will receive a full refund of all money paid, including the $25 service fee. No cancellation fee is charged to the seller in these cases.
If I have an extended warranty or service contract on my car, will I get a refund?
Unless you have made a claim against your service contract, you should be able to receive a prorated refund, though you’ll get it from the company that sold your vehicle service contract. Contact them directly to cancel once you complete your sale.
I have financing or a lease on my car. Will you take care of it?
No problem. Your financing or lease will be paid off, and you’ll be paid the difference between your sale price and the payoff amount. Once a financing payoff is submitted, it takes on average 5 to 10 business days for the lender to reflect the payoff. Please note that some leasing companies do not allow lease payoffs by third parties, and you will have to work with your leasing company to buy out the lease before the vehicle can be sold.
During the checkout process, financing and leases are reviewed, and your lender or lessor will be confirmed, along with your payoff amount. If you owe more than the price of your car minus any fees, you will be charged the difference and must pay the full amount owed to your lender.
If you owe more than your sale price minus fees, financing or payment plans cannot be provided for this amount.
Why did my pay-off amount change?
Your financing or lease payoff amount is sometimes automatically pulled and shown during checkout. However, this amount may change after we verify it directly with your lender or leasing company. If the confirmed amount is different, we’ll update it to ensure your financing is fully paid off and your title can be released properly.
Signature FAQs
After signing, where will I access these documents?
You will receive an email with all of the documents you signed. You will also be able to access them anytime in the Previous Transactions section of your Dashboard.
How do I notarize documents needed to register my car in my state?
If any of your registration documents need to be notarized, you will be automatically linked to notarize.com during the Signature step. You’ll be connected with an online notary to sign and notarize the forms, and then be linked back to Secure Purchase to complete checkout. The fee for notarize.com is $25, and Caramel Dealer Services does not mark up this service.
What happens if I fill out a form incorrectly?
You can contact the support team, and the form will be resent to you directly through Docusign.
What documents am I required to sign?
Required documents are automatically populated for the buyer and seller but vary based on the transaction type. Secure Purchase will guide you through the paperwork needed to complete the transaction.
Why do I need to give Caramel Dealer Services the power of attorney to sign for me?
When Caramel Dealer Services is facilitating the transaction, a power of attorney is required to allow them to complete DMV paperwork on your behalf.
Title and Registration FAQs
I paid for my vehicle. When will I receive my title?
Title delivery timelines vary by state and transaction type. For transactions where Caramel Dealer Services handles title transfer and registration, we will process and submit the necessary documentation to the DMV promptly. You can expect your title within the standard timeframe for your state, this typically takes anywhere from 30-90 business days from the time they receive the title and complete registration package.
What if my title is not in my name?
The title must be transferred to your name to prove to the DMV you are the current owner of the vehicle. This will prevent any delays in paperwork and processing times with the DMV. In some cases, DMV forms can be sent directly to the title owner so that you can avoid transferring the title.
What if I can’t find my title?
If you do not have a lien on your title, you will need to apply for a duplicate title through your state DMV. This title will be needed to show proof of ownership during your checkout process and will also need to be physically sent to Caramel Dealer Services prior to payment.
Why do I need to hand over my title before being paid?
It depends on the transaction type:
- For transactions where Caramel Dealer Services is handling the title and registration, you’ll send your title directly to Caramel using a prepaid shipping label. This ensures proper title transfer and registration.
- For transactions where Caramel Dealer Services is not handling title and registration, you will hand the title directly to the buyer or their transport agent at the time of vehicle handoff.
Note: The email instructions and on-site content will clearly indicate whether the title should be mailed or handed off in person.
Why did the DMV send me a notice to renew my registration or that my registration lapsed after I sold my car?
In some cases, you need to notify your DMV that you’ve sold your car, which you can often do on their website. If your DMV asks you for an address for Caramel Dealer Services, you can use the Caramel Dealer Services address printed on your sale documents.
What do I do after receiving my temporary registration permit(s)?
Based on your state’s guidelines, you were sent the appropriate number of temporary registration permits (often referred to as temporary “tags” or “plates”) to affix to the front and/or back of your vehicle. If you’ve received only one, then your state only requires you to place it on the back of your vehicle. If you’ve received two, then your state requires you to place them on the front and back of your vehicle. Typically, these are placed in the same place as your license plate. If you have a plastic sleeve to place these in, you should use it. Although this is not mandatory, this will help protect your tags until your permanent registration and license plates are received. You can print paper temporary registration out on standard paper.
Why did I receive a temporary registration for another state?
Caramel Dealer Services, LLC DBA CDS Auto Sales is a licensed dealer in that state, and that is the specific dealership location from which you bought the car. At the same time, Caramel Dealer Services works with your state’s DMV to get your permanent plates and registration issued ASAP in your home state.
When does my temporary registration expire?
Your temporary registration is valid for 40 days unless otherwise specified on the temporary registration you received.
What should I do if my temporary registration is about to expire?
If your temporary registration is set to expire in less than five days, contact Caramel Dealer Services to request an update on the status of your permanent registration and plates and instructions.
How does in-state and out-of-state registration work, and is Caramel Dealer Services handling it?
Caramel Dealer Services will handle all of the registration and title paperwork processing on behalf of you and your lender, if applicable. This includes out-of-state transactions. Most, if not all, DMV forms are signed by you during your checkout process. The appropriate DMV fees will also be collected at this time. These DMV forms, fees and your seller’s title are all submitted to the DMV in order to complete your registration, issue your license plates and your vehicle title. If additional information, forms, and/or fees are needed, a title and registration specialist will be in contact with you.
Can I register my vehicle myself?
Yes, in some cases. If Caramel Dealer Services is buying and selling the vehicle, the title must first be transferred into your name before you can complete registration on your own.
When will I receive my registration and license plates?
Depending on your state, this typically takes 45-60 business days from the time they receive a complete registration package. All major holidays should be considered. Your registration and license plates will be sent from the DMV to the address you provided Caramel Dealer Services.
Will Caramel Dealer Services notify me when my registration has been sent to me?
As soon as Caramel Dealer Services is made aware that your registration and license plates have been issued, you will be sent a notification with an estimated time of arrival.
I received my registration and license plates. Now what?
Depending on your state, you’ll receive one or two license plates, and registration and license plate stickers. Apply the license plate stickers to your license plates and install your license plates on your vehicle. If you only receive one license plate, install it on the back of your car. Keep the registration in your vehicle.
Why am I being charged the fees and taxes, and what if they’re wrong?
For transactions where Caramel Dealer Services is handling title and registration, Caramel is responsible to collect and pay fees and taxes to your state. Fees and taxes are calculated using a national service to estimate charges as accurately as possible. These amounts are not marked up. If the final DMV costs end up being lower than estimated, you will receive a refund for the difference.
For transactions where Caramel Dealer Services is not handling title and registration, buyers are responsible for paying all DMV fees and state taxes directly to their local DMV or appropriate state agency.
Why was I notified to complete a vehicle inspection and upload the inspection report?
Your state requires that your vehicle be inspected for emissions, safety, and/or to ensure the VIN is correct. For Caramel Dealer Services to register and title your vehicle, the vehicle must pass this inspection. The report is sent to the DMV as proof of completion and passing your state’s protocol. Why am I being asked to complete a vehicle emissions test and/or a VIN verification in order to complete my registration? Certain states require that a vehicle being registered for the first time in their state or a vehicle that has changed ownership complete these inspections. Your vehicle cannot be registered until these are completed and passed.
I bought a classic/vintage vehicle and selected ‘Yes’ to my usage qualifying for classic/vintage registration. Will my registration be different?
Yes, as long as your car qualifies, which will be checked and determined as part of the process. Note that depending upon your state, you may have limited usage of your classic/vintage vehicle. In most cases, the vehicle can only be operated as a collector’s item, including participation in club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, and cannot be used for general transportation purposes.
Why is Caramel Dealer Services asking me to sign more registration paperwork?
Your state requires additional forms in order to register your vehicle. Please complete and email or chat the form to Caramel Dealer Services as soon as possible to avoid added delays in completing your registration.
Am I able to register my vehicle in a different state than my residency?
No, states require you to have a residency where you register your car.
I lost my registration. Will Caramel Dealer Services send me a new one?
In most cases, you, as the registered owner, can apply for replacement registration and/or license plates through your state DMV’s online portal for a fee.
Why did I receive my title and registration package to complete myself?
If the necessary documents or requirements that are required to title and register your vehicle are unable to be obtained by Caramel Dealer Services within the timeframe required by us, you will be sent a title package in order for you to complete your title transfer and register your vehicle at your local DMV office. You’ll need to go to your local DMV and submit the package for processing.
Pickup FAQs
Should I give my title to the buyer or transport company?
It depends on the transaction type:
- For transactions where Caramel Dealer Services is handling the title and registration, no—you should never give your title to the buyer or transport company. Use the prepaid label provided to send it directly to Caramel Dealer Services.
- For transactions where Caramel Dealer Services is not handling title and registration, yes—you will hand the title directly to the buyer at the time of delivery.
Note: Title transfer instructions will be clearly communicated via email and on the site based on your specific transaction.
What should I have with me or in the car when I deliver it?
Before delivery, remove all personal items from the vehicle and delete any personal information in your vehicle’s infotainment, garage/gate access, and navigation systems. Be sure to leave behind the essentials: the owner’s manual, all keys, and any included accessories. Do not give the vehicle title to the buyer or transporter unless specifically instructed. You’ll receive clear delivery instructions via email and on the site.
What do I need to make sure happens when the car is picked up?
If using transport, ensure the transporter performs an inspection and has you sign a bill of lading to document any pre-existing damage. If handing the car directly to the buyer, ensure all expected items (e.g., keys, manuals) are included.
How do I reschedule vehicle handoff?
If your buyer is picking up the car, contact them directly. If your car is being delivered to your buyer, contact Caramel Dealer Services’ shipping partner at: support@runbuggy.com or 1-888-872-8449.
My buyer wants to test drive the car. Should I let them?
It’s entirely up to you! Your buyer is able to cancel a transaction up until the time they or their transport driver leaves with the car. So if your buyer asks for one, it can be important to allow a test drive in order to complete your sale. Please make sure you feel safe during any test drive. Bring someone with you if you can, and don’t travel too far or for too long.
