Can't Leave Home Without It by Scott Barnes
On a plane to Paris one day and a train to London the next, I often find myself in 3 or 4 different countries within the course of one week. Being a celebrity makeup artist means that wherever I travel, I must always be equipped with beauty products that guarantee results. Packing my suitcase, in itself, has become an art form.
With clients like Jennifer Lopez and Lucy Liu, the industry allows me the first peek at the latest makeup, skincare and haircare products. Over the years, i have developed an affinity for a particular few that are indispensable to every beauty routine, on skin tones ranging from Julianne Moore's to that of Mary J. Blige. If you need to know one thing about my style of makeup, it is that everything starts with gorgeous skin. Improving and maintaining youthful skin is the cornerstone of looking naturally radiant. For the most delicate skin on the face, La Prairie Cellular eye cream is a favorite of mine. It destresses and works beautifully underneath makeup. Scott Barnes Luminizing Mist is ideal to pamper the rest of the face. It is a unique product of mine that everyone can find a use for. Use this veil of mist to add luminosity before and after makeup application. It's anti-aging ingredients and delicious scent also make it a great skin-quenching toner and midday refresher. Anyway you use it, you are left glowing and
hydrated.
For the only skin you have that doesn't produce it's own natural oils, your lips, Mario Badescu makes an ultra-emollient formula that is available with or without SPF, and that won't break your bank.
La Mer Body Moisturizer is a beautifully rich formula that absorbs deeply to nourish and help repair imperfections on the rest of the body. It is so effective in its hydrating qualities, that daily use may be unnecessary.
Want to look expensive? Body Bling is the product that springboarded my luxe cosmetic line. I created Body Bling to illuminate, moisturize, and minimize imperfections... essential for bare legs and arms. It is a MUST in recreating that sought-after Hollywood glow.
For hair care, Mason Pearson brushes are a fantastic; their bristles help to distribute the scalp's natural oils from roots to ends. You can also maintain healthy hair by using Kerastase Substance Constructive leave-in conditioner. It's formula fortifies and reinforces the hair shaft without weighing down even the finest of locks.
With these basics in tow, you are sure to find yourself looking and feeling radiantly fresh. You deserve to experience the creme de la creme.

Face the New Year
Happy New Year! The holidays are over and what a busy season it was! Along with what seemed like an endless list of gifts, I wrapped up 2005 with some very exciting projects: I was makeup artist to Beyonce in her latest video, “Check On It” and, most recently, created the looks for Jennifer Lopez in her upcoming appearance alongside LL Cool J in his video for “Control Myself”. To make things absolutely nonstop, I have simultaneously been working as J-Lo’s key makeup artist on her and Marc Anthony’s upcoming movie, El Cantante. 'Tis the season for work, work, and more work!
Any way you slice it, the end of the year can overwhelm; You’ve racked your brain trying to find a perfect gift for that special someone, and you anticipate what 2006 has in store with infallible hope. You are granted a new lease on life and, resolution after resolution, your goals usually trend as those centered on well-being. Why not clean up your beauty act and start with a fresh, clean, and seamless look indicative of your new sense of self? This no-fail beauty look should be one that complements, not contradicts, your features every day.
By working with a palette of colors that mimics the undertones found naturally in the skin, you can create beautiful, easy looks that can be worn alone for simplicity, or embellished upon for fun. Determine the undertone of you skin, which can usually be classified as either pink, neutral, or yellow, and go with it. Choosing fresh shades with similar undertones to your own will make it easy for you to brighten up your face while still looking natural. Remember, we are trying to get away from those winter blahs, so keep the colors soft and warm, not excessively nude or “washed out”. For example, if you have golden undertones, choose juicy peaches and warm bronzes as your eye, cheek, and lip colors. More of a pink? Champagne shimmers and sheer baby-doll pinks will work well on you. Neutrals can have a bit more fun, being able to pull off either of the aforementioned looks. A few essential products to try are my Chic Palettes, Bronzers, and LipSuedes (launching Feb. 2006).
As seasons and trends change, this type of “base” look will allow you to embellish upon your makeup with ease. If you are ever in the mood for a smoky eye of a showy red lipstick, you’ll be able to incorporate the colors you already own and know to be flattering. Makeup should always be fun; Switch things up a bit, as your environment, mood, and style influence you.
Be sure you are layering these colors on a smooth skin, as the weather can do a good job of drying you out. Upgrade your moisturizer to a more powerful one, and keep textures of foundations and concealers creamy. Also, keep a bottle of my Luminizing Mist at hand to fight dehydration: Not only will your skin be comforted from the outside in, but it will hold a more modern, glowing finish.
Whether you’ve committed to contributing a few more dollars to charity or to slaying those last pesky 10 pounds into an elliptical-machine oblivion, take a little time to make sure your appearance is a fitting representation of your inner renewal. What better way to let the world know that you plan on making some meaningful changes than looking the part?
