FAQs
Why is the way I’m getting paid on eBay changing?
We are updating the payments experience on eBay to enhance the buying and selling experience on the marketplace. We believe this is an opportunity to deliver a more seamless experience for both buyers and sellers, while offering a greater choice in payment and payout options.
What does it mean when you say getting paid has changed on eBay?
The new eBay payments experience enables you to sell and get paid in one place, on eBay, and buyers have more ways to pay. Regardless of how the buyer pays, your payouts are initiated within 2 business days (Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays) of confirming the buyer’s payment.
What are the benefits of changing the way to get paid on eBay?
The new eBay payments experience provides buyers with more ways to pay and sellers, such as yourself, a streamlined selling experience. Buyers can pay with credit, debit, and gift cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and PayPal Credit.
You can access everything you need to sell and get paid on eBay: a single source for fees, customized reports, refunds, simplified protections and dedicated support. Payouts are deposited directly to your bank account.
Is there anything I need to do right now?
When you receive a notification, you are required to register by the communicated deadline. This will ensure your account does not experience any disruptions after the deadline has passed. Your notification will provide detailed instructions on the steps you must take to update and verify your account information.
If I don’t update my account details now, what happens?
The new eBay payments experience enhances the buying and selling experience on eBay. eBay is requiring all sellers to use this experience by 2021, and all sellers enabled for the new payments experience must update their account details and link a checking account to receive payouts for their sales. When you receive a notification, we encourage you to update your account details by the communicated deadline to continue managing listings and maintain your ability to sell on eBay.
If you do not update your account details by the specified deadline, your ability to manage listings and sell on eBay will be restricted.
Additionally, any live listings associated with your account will end — even if buyers have submitted bids or offers.
How will the checkout experience change for buyers when eBay changes how I get paid?
As part of this change, buyers can use a variety of payment methods such as credit card, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and PayPal Credit. They can also save and store their card information for future use.
When you update your account details for the new eBay payments experience, we’ll automatically update all of your existing live listings** to reflect the different ways buyers can pay. Please refrain from specifying preferred payment methods in your listings. For more information, see our listing policies.
**Any listings that violate our policies will be ended.
How are my fees changing?
Your eBay selling fees and expenses will be deducted from your earnings before you get paid. The remainder of your earnings will go directly to your bank account. You’ll no longer have to pay PayPal payments processing fees and there are no more separate monthly fee payments.
When should I ship my items?
When an order appears in eBay as Awaiting Shipment in Seller Hub, or Ready to Ship in My eBay, it means eBay has confirmed the buyer’s payment, and it’s time for you to ship the order. eBay will not ask you to ship an order until the buyer has completed their payment.
Does the new eBay payments experience support the Global Shipping Program?
Yes. Easily ship internationally with our Global Shipping Program, which takes care of customers’ taxes, and import/export fees for you.
When and how will I receive my payouts?
eBay sends a message when the buyer has paid and it's time for you to ship your order. You can use the processing funds from your sale to purchase shipping labels immediately, or pay for them separately. eBay makes the remaining funds from your sale available within 2 business days of confirming the buyer’s payment. You may choose to receive payouts of available funds daily or weekly.
Please note: eBay only sends payouts to your bank on business days (Monday through Friday, excluding bank holidays). eBay deducts fees and expenses related to your sales from your funds prior to payout. Examples of eBay selling fees include but are not limited to: insertion fees, Promoted Listings, listing upgrades, and Store subscription fees.
You will find details of your payouts, including all related fees and expenses, in the Reports section of Seller Hub or My eBay.
If you choose to receive payouts daily, eBay sends payouts of available funds to your bank within 2 business days of confirming the buyer’s payment. In the event of a bank holiday, eBay will make the payout on the following business day.
If you choose to receive payouts weekly, eBay sends payouts of available funds to your bank on Tuesdays. If a Tuesday falls on a bank holiday, eBay will make the payout on the following business day.
Once eBay sends payouts, your bank will generally take 1-3 additional business days to make the funds from these payouts available to you.
Do I need a bank account to receive my payouts?
Yes, payouts are sent directly to your bank account when you are using the new payments experience on eBay. During the registration process you can choose to add a local checking account or you can do it later. You will need to add a bank account so we can send you your earnings.
How are you protecting my personal information?
We only ask for the information we need to keep you safe and pay out your earnings. Your trust is our priority. We have also simplified claim and seller protections to make your experience even easier.
As an additional security measure, eBay also supports two-factor authentication. We highly recommend that sellers leverage this additional layer of security. When two-factor authentication is enabled, sellers must authenticate the login credentials associated with their eBay account via SMS or push notifications if they have the eBay app on their iOS or Android device.
Can my payouts be directed to my PayPal account?
No, once you update your account, your payouts will only be sent to your bank account, but you should be able to transfer funds from your bank account to your PayPal account to ensure there are funds in your PayPal account if needed.
Why can’t I get funds the same day like I do today in PayPal?
We aim to pay you as quickly as possible, but are dependent on the credit card brands (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.) and banks for payout processing and timely funds settlement.
Will buyer purchases still be covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee?
Eligible buyer purchases will continue to be covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
Will my transactions be eligible for seller protections?
The existing seller protections for eBay Money Back Guarantee claims will continue to apply; please see our seller protections policy for more details. Additionally, as described in the Payments Terms of Use, as long as your account is in good standing, eBay may protect you from unauthorized transactions directly, such as by investigating and re-presenting chargebacks.
Items not covered under the eBay Money Back Guarantee include vehicles, real estate, websites and businesses for sale, classified ads, services, digital content, intangible goods, and some business equipment categories. See the full list in the eBay Money Back Guarantee policy.
