How to Play the eBay Treasure Hunt Instant Win Game

Step 1: Get the clue and solve the puzzle.

Every day we'll hide 25 new $1000 prizes in listings on eBay.com and eBayMotors.com. For each prize we'll post a clue to the "Get Clues" page—one clue for each prize. Each clue is a puzzle. It might be a straightforward word association, as in the example below. Or it might be an anagram, pun, rhyme, or oblique reference. To solve it, you may need to employ lateral thinking, or your knowledge of pop culture, American literature, or American history.

Example: Clue: "Apple Pie" Solution: "Motherhood"

Step 2: Search eBay.

Once you think you’ve solved the puzzle, use your solution or words associated with it to search or browse eBay for the listing with the hidden treasure. In the "Apple Pie/Motherhood" example above, you might do a search for listings with the words "“maternity dress" in the title. If you’re right, your search may lead you to the listing with the hidden prize.

IMPORTANT! Listings with hidden prizes are set up so that you can search only the titles—not the item descriptions—to find the hidden treasure.

Step 3: Claim the treasure!

If you find the winning listing, the "View Item" page will look like the illustration on the right. Follow the step-by-step instructions under the "Prize" road sign to claim your prize. eBay will confirm you are the winner by emailing you.

NOTE: Participation in the eBay Treasure Hunt is free. Winning entrants will not be required to pay any money. eBay will not ask for your username, password, address, bank account details or other personal details by email or Web page linked to or from the hidden treasure listing.

Beware of any listing asking for money or personal information!

Each clue and the corresponding hidden prize is good until the prize is found and claimed, or until the end of the promotion period, whichever comes first. Check the "Get Clues" page for a complete list of all clues posted to date. If the prize associated with a clue has already been found or claimed, the listing will also be posted. You can check back as often as you like and use "unsolved" clues to search for any prizes still available.

How to Enter the Sweepstakes

Get up to one entry per day in the Sweepstakes by simply bidding, buying or listing. If you're the lucky winner, eBay will notify you by email.

No purchase is necessary to enter or win. Please see the Official Rules for details.

When is it?
The eBay Treasure Hunt Instant Win Game and Sweepstakes begin at 12:01 AM Pacific Time (PT) February 16, 2005 and ends at 11:59 PM PT February 23, 2005 ("Entry Period").

Who is eligible?
The eBay Treasure Hunt Instant Win Game and Sweepstakes are open to confirmed registered members of www.ebay.com who are legal U.S. residents, 18 years or older at the time of entry (mail-in entrants need not be registered members of the eBay Site). If I find a listing with a hidden prize, how do I know it's genuine?
First, eBay will confirm you are the winner by email. Second, participation is free. Winning entrants will not be required to pay any money. Third, eBay will not ask for your username, password, address, bank account details or other personal details by email or Web page linked to or from the hidden treasure listing. Any listing asking for money or personal information will NOT be the real thing.

How many $1000 treasures can I win?
To keep a level playing field, each player can win only one $1000 prize.

Can I win both a $1000 treasure and the sweepstakes?
Yes, Treasure Hunt prize winners are eligible to enter and win the Sweepstakes.

How often can I play the Instant Win Game?
Play as often as you want, until you find and claim a prize. Every day 25 new prizes and clues are added so come back often, click on the "Get Clues" button, and start the hunt!

What if no one solves the clue and finds the prize hidden in a given hour?
The clue will stay posted and the prize will stay hidden until someone finds it or the Promotion ends, whichever comes first. Check the "Get Clues" page for a complete list of all clues posted to date and the prizes still game for the hunt.

What happens if a prize is unclaimed at the end of the Entry Period?
Unclaimed and/or unawarded Treasure Hunt Instant Win Game prizes, if any, will be awarded in a Second Chance Drawing. Winner[s] will be selected in a random drawing on or about March 7, 2005 by Marden-Kane Inc., from all eligible entries received.

How do I enter the Second Chance Drawing?
To enter the Second Chance Drawing, hand print your name, address, city, state, zip, e-mail address, eBay user ID (optional) and your day and evening phone numbers on a 3"x 5" card and mail in a #10 envelope to: "eBay Treasure Hunt Second Chance Drawing", P.O. Box 6000, Manhasset, NY 11030-6000. Enter as often as you wish, but each entry must be mailed separately. Mechanically reproduced entries are not eligible. All entries must be postmarked by February 23, 2005 and received by March 2, 2005.

Do I have to buy or list anything to participate in the promotion?
To participate in the eBay Treasure Hunt Instant Win Game, no purchase, bid or listing is necessary.

To participate in the eBay Treasure Hunt Sweepstakes: You will receive one entry into the Sweepstakes when you bid on, purchase, or list an item on www.ebay.com or www.ebaymotors.com during the Entry Period, for up to a maximum of one entry each day. To enter the Sweepstakes by mail without bidding on, purchasing or listing an item: Hand print your name, address, city, state, zip, e-mail address, eBay user ID (optional) and your day and evening phone numbers on a 3"x 5" card and mail in a #10 envelope to: "eBay Treasure Hunt Sweepstakes", P.O. Box 4319, Manhasset, NY 11030-4319. Mail-in entries must be mailed separately and postmarked by February 23, 2005 and received by March 2, 2005.

What transactions are excluded in the Sweepstakes?
Purchases, bids and listings in eBay Live Auctions, Giving Works (Charity), and Professional Services shall be excluded and will not be considered Qualifying Transactions.
