| Q: I am brand new to eBay. Is there a general overview of how to register, how to sell, and how to buy? A: Yes. Visit eBay Education for an introduction to eBay. Q: Who has to register on Square Trade? Can anyone sell travel on eBay? A: The Airline, Cruises, Lodging and Vacation Package categories on eBay Travel require mandatory verification of all sellers. Only verified sellers may list in these categories. Non-verified sellers can still list in the Other Travel and Luggage categories without undergoing this verification process. However, non-verified sellers can't list airline tickets, cruises, lodging, or vacation packages in these categories -- or elsewhere on eBay. The ability to list these items is limited to the appropriate restricted categories. These requirements do not affect your ability to list non travel-related items elsewhere on eBay. For more information on the seller verify program, click here. Q: What do I do if I have problems with getting started or selling? A: Check out eBay's Help Section for answers to nearly all your questions, including a step-by-step audio tour. If you still can't find what you are looking for, please use the web forms found in that section to submit your question to us. Q: What does it cost to list on eBay? A: EBay fees are a combination of a listing fee and a final value fee charged only if your item sells. For an overview of eBay fees, click here. Q: I have lots of items to sell- are there tools to help me with this? A: EBay offers several Advanced Selling Tools to help high-volume sellers manage their eBay listings. Check out Turbo Lister, and Seller's Assistant. Compare the features to decide what will work best for you. Q: What kind of travel item sells well on eBay? A: There are a wide variety of travel items that sell on eBay. Most important, eBay shoppers want great deals. List items that you can afford to discount off the "retail" price. In addition, consider bundling several items to create a unique package, such as four-star lodging, sporting event tickets, and a convertible rental car. Current top destinations include: Hawaii, Las Vegas, Orlando/Florida, Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexico, and California. Q: Which is better- fixed price or auction format? A: There is no "right" way to list on eBay. There are multiple auction formats and features to use- you can try auction, fixed price, or a stores format. Try out various combinations, to find the optimal selling strategy for your items. Q: Are there items I am not allowed to list? A: You can sell almost anything on eBay, but there are some restrictions. If you wish to sell items in Travel, in any category other than "Other Travel" or "Luggage" you need to be verified by Square Trade. See above for a description of the verification program. In no category are you allowed to list an item that requires or offers an additional purchase. Example: travel certificates that require holder to buy or pay for something (i.e. 7 nights hotel room) as a condition of receiving the benefit of the coupon (i.e. free or discounted airfare). Q: How do I charge the buyer for taxes and other fees? A: Sellers must disclose any additional fees. 1) All non-shipping and handling fees paid to the seller or any other private party must be included in the auction price. 2) Taxes paid to government agencies or fees to state or local regulatory bodies do not need to be included in the auction price, however they must be noted in the item description. Listings that appear to have excessive government or regulatory fees will be ended. Failure to clearly and accurately disclose all additional fees may also result in the loss of the Travel Seller Verify by SquareTrade seal". Q: How do I collect payment from buyers on eBay? A: Sellers on eBay can determine their own conditions of sale and conduct their transactions on the site according to them. You decide whether to take checks, money orders, credit cards, et cetera. Please note: it is important to include details on your accepted payment methods in each listing you post onto eBay so that buyers can make an informed purchase decision. Q: I have a vacation I bought and can't use- can I sell it on eBay? A: Yes, you can, if you are the owner, you have documentation proving this, and it is transferable. The seller must still get verified by Square Trade, and be prepared to show them the documentation. |
