TradeOut-Bringing Further Success to Your Online Business

Recently, eBay and TradeOut, the leading Internet marketplace for surplus business assets, announced an agreement that brings new buyers to eBay's Business Exchange and offers attractive new opportunities for eBay sellers to source items to resell.

Under the agreement, eBay will establish direct links to TradeOut from the eBay Business Exchange area and TradeOut will prominently display eBay on its home page and provide links to the eBay Business Exchange so as to bring new members to eBay.

TradeOut is an online exchange where companies buy and sell surplus assets in more than 100 categories, including excess inventory and used manufacturing equipment. The companies on TradeOut range from Fortune 500 industrial companies to mid-sized wholesale distributors. Much of the inventory is sold in bulk and today cannot be found on eBay.

eBay sellers will now be able to source large lots of merchandise, such as computers or cosmetics, from TradeOut and resell them in smaller quantities on eBay. Additionally, TradeOut customers will be able to buy and sell individual items, such as desks, delivery vans or cash registers, on the eBay Business Exchange.

We hope that this arrangement will bring value to your current business!

New Features and Changes to the Sell Your Item Form

Using eBay is getting faster and easier! We're improving our Sell Your Item form to shave valuable seconds off the time it takes you to list an item. And, we're adding new seller features to help your listings POP!

To help increase your listing success on eBay, we've added a new feature: "Highlight"! For just $5 you can draw attention to your listing by highlighting its title in yellow. Highlighting will show up in search results and browse to increase chances your item gets viewed and bid on.

We've also improved "Category Featured," so that these items are featured in the Search mode, as well as the Listings mode. To reflect the added value, that feature is now called "Featured Plus" and it costs $19.95.

And we've eliminated the Gift Icon due to low use; we may make it available during the holidays.

These new features will roll-out during the third week of August. To learn the details and see what these seller features look like, please click here.

Time Saving Changes to the Sell Your Item Form

Implementing these feature changes will impact the Sell Your Item page. So we thought we'd take that opportunity to improve the page in other ways as well. You can preview the page by clicking here.

The required fields have been grouped together and moved to the top of the page, and the optional fields have been moved right below. This change is designed to allow you to input up-front the required fields specific to each of your auction listings, and, if desired, to bypass the optional fields by immediately clicking on the "continue" button. We believe these changes will help you list your items faster.

Promotional Efforts and Partnerships

Making it Easier for Buyers to Find Your Items

Did you know that your items are now getting extra merchandising value because of the Related Topics links we recently added to the Listings pages? This new merchandising feature will benefit all sellers because it allows cross-promotional activity between related categories and Theme Pages.

When a buyer browses for an item from a category or subcategory, they will see the Related Topics links above all of the listings. For example, if a buyer is browsing the Computers: Books category, they will find Related Topics links to Hardware, Software and Computer Magazines. To view this example of Related Topics links, please click here.

Productivity Tools

Knowledge is Power!

Is this really a productivity tool? Probably not. However, we feel that it is important for you to know of some upcoming site promotions, so you can list your items at the most opportune times. The latest promotional calendar just came in and displays the following promotions:

  • Week of August 21 - Computers and Musical Instruments
  • Week of September 4 - Motors and Electronics
  • Week of September 18 - Sports and Tickets and Experience
The category listed first is the main promotion for that week and the following category is the secondary promotion.

In the future, information about upcoming promotions will more than likely appear in either in the Promotional Efforts and Partnerships section or the Important Events to Remember section.

We hope you find this information useful!

Policy Updates

Further Clarification of eBay's Linking Policies

We would like to provide further clarification on linking to your web site from your item description. Please remember, the intent of allowing links to a web site from your item description has always been to enable you to provide additional information to help you sell that particular item. The link should not advertise other items or the fact that you may have other items for sale on your web page. The links to your own web site must comply with the guidelines outlined in the Advertisements policy. Additionally, please follow the linking guidelines, which do not permit the following:

  • Links to other auction-style trading sites
  • Links to sites offering the same merchandise for the same or lower price
  • Links to sites offering merchandise prohibited on eBay
For additional information, please refer to the
policy section of eBay.

Thank you for your cooperation in making eBay a fun and safe place to trade!
