What is a coupon and are there any requirements?
Coupons are discounts offered on items listed on eBay.com. You must meet all the criteria of the coupon in order to redeem the coupon. The option to use the coupon will only be available if the seller of the item accepts PayPal. You may use eBay coupons on any item that accepts PayPal as long as the following requirements are met:
  • Items must meet all coupon requirements as explained in the Terms and Conditions.
  • The coupon has not expired. The expiration date is noted on the coupon.
  • eBay.com coupons cannot be used for Half.com or Live Auction purchases.
  • The seller uses the eBay checkout system or a customized checkout system which accepts the coupon.


How do I obtain a coupon?
Some users may occasionally be offered coupons for promotions or by Customer Service, at eBay's discretion. If you are chosen to receive a coupon, you may receive your coupon in an email, an on-site offer, or a mailed catalog or postcard.

Do I have to have an eBay account to use a coupon?
Yes, you must have a valid eBay account in order to buy an item at eBay.com and use your coupon. You can sign up for an eBay account during the process of buying an item on eBay.com.

Do I need to have a PayPal account to redeem a coupon?
Yes. You can sign up for a PayPal account during the process of paying for an item on eBay.com. You must have a valid PayPal account in order to redeem your coupon.

What are my payment options when using a coupon?
You must pay with PayPal if you want to use your coupon. PayPal allows you to pay with your credit card, debit card, check account, bank account or PayPal balance.

Can I use more than one coupon at a time?
No, only one coupon may be used per purchase.

Can I use coupons for items on any eBay site and in any currency?
Your coupon can be used for any core eBay.com site in any country. Currency is automatically translated by PayPal at the time of purchase from the currency stated on the coupon to the purchase currency.

Who can I contact if I am having trouble using a coupon?
Please make sure you met all coupon requirements. If you are still having problems redeeming your coupon please contact PayPal Customer Support.

Where can I use my coupons?
Coupons can only be redeemed for items sold on eBay.com that meet the following requirements:
  • The seller accepts PayPal as a payment method.
  • Coupons must be redeemed before the expiration date on the coupon.
If your coupon is eligible for use on the item, you’ll see a coupon alert message on the listing page when you have logged in to eBay.com. If the item is ineligible or on eBay Motors or World of Good, you won’t see a coupon alert message.


Can I give my coupon to someone else?
Most coupons may be used only by you when you received it directly from eBay. If the coupon includes your User ID, the coupon may only be redeemed by you with your account associated with that User ID and with your PayPal account. Therefore, it cannot be resold or transferred in any way.

How do I see what coupons I have?
Go to eBay.com and open My eBay. Scroll down to your coupons bar. The coupons bar will only appear when you have coupons available.


How do I complete my purchase using coupons?

1. Go to "Review your purchase". In the Redeem a Coupon, Gift Card or Certificate box, enter or paste the redemption code. Hit "Apply". If you received a cash back offer no code is needed.


2. Choose PayPal for your payment method.


3. Confirm your payment and you're done!

What do I do when a seller uses a customized checkout?
Some sellers use their own customized checkout systems. Coupons may be used in some of them. If your coupon is eligible for use on the item, you'll see a coupon alert message on the listing page when you have logged in to eBay.com.


Can I use my coupon on other eBay sites?
You can use your coupon on eBay Motors and World of Good on an item that accepts PayPal as long as the requirements of the coupon are met. However, you won’t see a coupon alert message on eBay Motors or World of Good listing pages. eBay.com coupons cannot be used for Half.com or any other eBay sites.

Can I use my coupon with any item?
You can use a coupon that you receive from eBay or PayPal with any eBay.com item that accepts PayPal and that meets the coupon's eligibility requirements.

What do I do with the Redemption Code on my coupon?
You can enter the Redemption Code when you are paying for an eBay.com item and paying with PayPal. This allows PayPal to validate the coupon and display your discount. To make sure you enter the Redemption Code correctly, you may want to copy and paste it. Here's what to do when a seller uses a customized checkout.

If my coupon doesn't cover the whole transaction amount, how do I pay for the remainder?
The remaining balance can be paid with any of your other valid funding sources from your PayPal account (i.e. PayPal balance, bank account, debit card or credit card).

Do coupons expire?
Yes, coupons expire. The expiration date is on the coupon and is stated in the coupon's Terms and Conditions.

What happens if I pay for an item with a coupon and then the payment is reversed?
You will receive a refund for the entire portion of the purchase you paid for but not for the amount of the coupon.

Can I combine coupons with a Gift Certificate to purchase an item on eBay?
Yes, coupons can be combined with Gift Certificates and Gift Cards. However, you cannot use two coupons in one purchase.

Can I use my coupon for purchases on Half.com?
No. Coupons issued from eBay or PayPal are not redeemable for Half.com purchases.

If I buy an item but am unable to use the coupon I wanted to, what should I do?
You have already purchased the item and are required to pay for it. If that is impossible, you should contact the seller. If you are still having problems, please contact PayPal Customer Support.

What does eBay mean by "single purchase" for coupon redemption?
Coupons that require a single purchase mean they must be redeemed with a single seller, using a single method of shipping, in a single transaction. Some coupons may only be redeemed for a single item. If the coupon is limited to a single-item purchase it will say so on the coupon. If there is a minimum price for the coupon to apply it will say so in the coupon terms.

How do coupons benefit sellers?
Coupons may increase the number of bidders and buyers on eBay, and may encourage recipients to bid more and on higher value items.

As a seller, what do I have to do to accept coupons?
Sellers simply need to accept PayPal as a payment method. Coupons are automatically converted to regular currency at the time of redemption, so sellers will not be aware that a coupon has been used to fund the payment.

Will I know if a buyer has used a coupon on a payment?
Coupons are automatically converted to regular currency at the time of redemption, so you will not even be aware that a coupon was used to fund the payment.

If a buyer uses a coupon, will the payment I receive change?
No, you will still receive a single payment. You will not even be aware that the buyer used a coupon.

What if the buyer returns the item and the seller refunds the PayPal payment?
To refund purchases that used coupons, use the Refund Console in your PayPal account and refund the full amount without changes. PayPal will handle proper chargeback.
