Game Diva

My international customers now represent about a third of my total sales. Most of my customers are from Canada, but I ship to all countries, from the UK to Brazil."

Expanding inventory to boost growth

To access more inventory and scale her business, Karen has evolved the mix of her inventory over time. "When I first started, I sold the games I had-all used games. I

realized if I could sell the old games, I could sell new ones, too. Now I sell only new games." While her sales have been growing an impressive 10% a year since she opened her Store, Karen hopes to accelerate her growth even faster. Now she's increasing her product mix to include toys. In doing so, she hopes to widen her customer base, finding new customers and increasing sales. "This year, I plan to increase my sales by a minimum of 25%, and I'm hoping to double them!"
GameDiva's tips for success
• Encourage multiple purchases. "It's easier to get a customer to add an item to their order than to get a new customer. Use Cross-Promotions, offer combined shipping discounts, and consider promotional offers. During the holidays, I give $5 off on a purchase of $75 or more."
• Be smart with inventory purchases "Don't stock up on inventory before you know how well it sells. Buy a few and see how well they sell first. Stock up for the holidays in June and July. People start buying holiday gifts in October, and you don't want to miss the rush."
• Charge reasonable shipping. "High shipping prices really turn off buyers. It's better to sell more product than to try to make money on shipping. Buyers would rather pay a few dollars more for an item than an inflated shipping cost."
• Try to get good feedback. "Good feedback boosts buyer confidence. Provide excellent customer service and ship as soon as you can-I normally ship the next day."
