How eBay Stores are helping one numismatist get to the top
In one sleepy Central California town, there's a man who dreams of running the largest numismatic organization in the world.
That man is Troy Thoreson-and he's on his way to achieving his dream with help from his eBay Store, AucPro. He's a coin and currency expert, a successful eBay Store owner, a PowerSeller, and also an eBay University Education Specialist.

Troy started selling on eBay in early 1998. Prior to that, Troy sold coins at local shows and even by mail order. But in order to accomplish his goal of worldwide reach and growth, Troy needed to try other sales avenues.

Why Troy opened an eBay Store

Troy opened his eBay Store in 2003. He'd been selling on eBay for several years, but had learned that Store Inventory, a listing format only available to Store sellers, was an inexpensive way to list multiple-item listings. He sensed it would be a great sales channel for modest- and medium-priced numismatic and philatelic items along with related supplies. But after doing more research, Troy learned about a Store's additional benefits. He realized that an eBay Store offered a better

environment for all of his listings, both Auction-style or Fixed Price, as well as branding possibilities via a unique URL. "Why have an e-commerce Web site and have to pay more when eBay and PayPal can take care of all of my needs? It just makes sense to have an eBay Store." Plus, Troy knew that his growing business could take advantage of eBay's ever-growing worldwide Community and brand-name appeal.

An eBay Store takes off

Troy is taking full advantage of all the features available at the Premium Store level. At AucPro, buyers can quickly find collectible U.S. and world coins via easy-to-use customized searches.

And on his eBay Store's "About the Seller" page, Troy makes sure to list numismatist certificates he's been awarded, in addition to his life membership in the American Numismatic Association.

He is most pleased with the unique branding opportunities that an eBay Store offers his business, including a unique URL. Troy features his URL, stores.ebay.com/AucPro, in all of his promotional materials to drive traffic to his Store. Also, he's given his Store a clean, crisp look, complete with a distinct logo and professional interface. This way, Troy can attract and retain customers. And it's paying off. As of this year, 25% of his sales come from repeat customers.
