Store Builder Help
It's easy and fast with eBay's Store Builder. Here's how it works:

Store Name

  • Choose a name that immediately tells buyers what you sell. For instance, a straightforward name such as "Ben's Computers" will be more helpful to buyers than a creative name such as "Zebra Park."
  • Your eBay Store name can be your eBay User ID or you can choose something different, as long as it meets the requirements below.
  • If the store name you request is already taken as someone else's eBay User ID, eBay will ask you to choose another name.
  • Once you choose a store name that is different from your user ID, eBay will reserve that name for your exclusive use. No one will be able to take your Store name as his or her eBay User ID.
  • In turning your name into your custom URL (Web site address) eBay will take out special characters (including apostrophes, spaces, &, !, @, $, etc), and will make all letters lowercase.
  • Do not use a name that is identical to, or confusingly similar to another company's name which is protected by trademark law. See our Trademarked Items and Domain Name policies. Also, you may not choose a name that contains the word eBay, Half.com, Butterfields, or Billpoint, or which is confusingly similar to those names.
  • Users must also abide by the following rules in their Store Name:
    • The name must start and end with either a number or a letter. For example, "Inexpensive Diamonds" is ok, but "*Inexpensive Diamonds*" is illegal.
    • The name cannot start with four or more consecutive letter A's. For example. "aaaa Dogs", "AaAa Brewery", and "aaAAaa Paving" are illegal.
    • The name cannot contain two or more consecutive blanks or non-alphanumeric charaters. For example, "Cheap $ Cell Phones" is ok, but "Cheap $$ Cell Phones" is illegal.
    • The name cannot contain the following characters: <, >, or @.
    • The name cannot start with an 'e' or 'E' followed by a number. For example, "EE Books" is ok, but "e911 Services" is illegal.
    • The name cannot end with a top-level domain name. This list includes ".com", ".edu", ".gov", ".int", ".mil", ".net", ".org", ".biz", ".info", ".name", ".pro", ".aero", ".coop", and ".museum".
    • The name cannot contain "www" anywhere in the name.

Seller's Payment Information

To be used on the checkout system. This will be presented to the buyer as the address to send non electronic payments. This address should be kept up-to-date.

Store Description

This will appear on your store's home page.

  • This is the most important place to communicate what your eBay Store is all about. You can describe what you sell, what's special about it, how long you've been in business, your expertise, etc..
  • Do not include links to Web sites outside of eBay. Please visit our Links and Credit Policy for more information.
  • Do not include offensive material.

Store Specialties

This will appear at the top of your store's Policies area.
Copy your store description or provide additional information about your store.

Store Sort Defaults

You have the option of selecting the most appropriate listing sort order for your store. You can choose any one of 4 available sort options to have buyers enter your store and see your listings in the order you have selected. These options include:

  • Highest Price first
  • Lowest Price first
  • Ending Soonest
  • Ending Latest

You can select the display that best suits your business needs. For example; if you sell discounted items you might select "lowest price first" but if your specialty is high-end, high ticket items you might prefer to have your items displayed by highest price first. Also, if you tend to sell mostly auction items in your store you may choose to have them sorted by "ending soonest" to carry over that auction feeling to your store. If you sell mostly staple items you keep in your store for long periods of time you may choose to have them displayed by "items ending last". Regardless of your business strategy, you can now tailor your eBay store listings to suit your business needs.

Simply select the sort order that best suits your needs and your listings will automatically be presented in this order in your eBay Store. You can update your selection at any time by returning to the Store Builder page to edit your store and selecting a new option.

Custom Store Categories

Create any type of categories you'd like to display in your store (Glass Hearts, Steve's Cars, etc.)

  • This is an important step: consider categories that will entice your buyers.
  • For example, straightforward: Watches: Seiko, Citizen, Wristbands, Batteries.
Or more creative: "50% off specials", or "See This Stuff!"
  • Choose categories that you will be able to keep stocked with merchandise.
  • Consider naming a category "Specials" or "Featured items" to attract buyers.
  • Your categories don't have to match eBay categories.

Store Graphic

  • If you have a graphic that you would like to use, you will need to get an electronic image of it. The maximum dimensions are 310 x 90 pixels, but eBay can shrink or enlarge your logo to fit these dimensions.
  • Please make sure your image has a .gif, .jpg or .bmp extension.
  • You will need to choose a photo-hosting service (your own Internet Service Provider can help, for example).
  • The photo-hosting service will provide you with a URL (Web site address) that corresponds with your electronic image; this is the URL to enter on the Store Builder form.

Store Policies

This will appear at the top of your store's Policies area.
Copy your store description or provide additional information about your store.
