Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you changing the logo?

Over the past four years, eBay Stores has evolved from a simple showcase of a seller's listings to a customizable storefront where sellers can build a unique identity and market and grow their business. Based on Community feedback and extensive buyer and seller research done during the past year, we found that that red tag logo sent many messages that did not reflect what an eBay Store is today. With this in mind, we decided it was time to replace the "red tag" logo with a new brand identity that better reflects what Store sellers and buyers tell us is a key part of their Stores experience: opportunity, trust, convenience and simplicity.

What was wrong with the old logo?

While the current eBay Stores red tag logo is familiar to Store sellers, we found that many users associate the red tag with "sale" or "clearance" items or have the perception that an eBay Store is simply another selling format on eBay. To address this issue, we decided to change the logo to better reflect the benefits of an eBay Store. We hope the new logo will help clarify that eBay Stores is a customized way to view all items from a seller rather than just a place to find store inventory format items.

What is the new logo and what does it represent?

The new eBay Stores logo is the eBay logo and the word "stores" in a new, easy-to-read typeface which is now consistent with the overall eBay brand. It is followed by a graphic of multiple doors, representing the wide variety of small businesses that make up eBay Stores. The door is also open, which represents the opportunity, trust and convenience of an eBay Store.

How long was the red tag logo used?

Since the launch of eBay Stores in June 2001, eBay Stores has been represented by a red tag logo:

Why is the new logo red?

eBay Stores has always been tied to its red tag symbol. While the symbol that we are using to represent eBay Stores has changed, we wanted to preserve the recognizable element of the old logo: the color red. Buyers and sellers can still easily identify an eBay Store or Store inventory item by looking for the red Stores logo.

Did you get input from eBay buyers and sellers before deciding on this logo?

Yes. First, we talked to buyers and sellers (both with and without an eBay Store and on and off eBay) and showed them the old red tag logo in order to get their impressions. Many non-Store owners associated the red tag logo with sale items or luggage tags. Store owners also felt that the logo did not accurately represent what an eBay Store was to them: an opportunity to build a successful business online backed by the trust and credibility of the eBay brand. We incorporated this feedback into the development of the new logo and shared several iterations of the logo with eBay buyers and sellers before arriving at the final, open door logo we have today.

Where can I get print-ready versions of the new eBay Stores logo?

You can download the new logo from: www.ebay.com/storefronts/brand/download.html

When can I start replacing the red tag logo with the new logo on my listings, business cards, stationery, etc?

You can start right now! We recognize this may be a disruption to your business so we are giving all Store sellers immediate access to the new Stores logo prior to the launch.

When will the new logo appear on the US site?

The new logo will begin appearing on the US site in June.

When will the new logo start appearing on international sites?

The new logo will begin appearing on non US sites in July, a few weeks after it appears on the US site.

Will the Store Inventory Format image change as well?

Yes. Instead of the icon of a red tag inside a bubble, sellers will begin seeing the open door icon as a symbol for Store Inventory Format as well.

Will there be any other changes to the site besides the logo

For the most part, the existing logo will just be swapped out with the new logo. We will also be refreshing look and feel of our education pages like http://pages.ebay.com/storefronts/seller-landing.html as well as our product pages like http://stores.ebay.com to be more in line with the visual qualities of the new brand. We will also change some links within the "Seller information" box that appears on the top of eBay listing pages in order to make it easier for users to view a seller's other items by "Store View" or "List View".

What are the trademark and use policies surrounding the eBay Stores logo?

To learn more about eBay Stores brand guidelines, visit www.ebay.com/storefronts/brand/download.html and click on the Brand Guidelines link at the bottom of the page.

How will you be marketing the new logo?

We will launch our new eBay Stores brand campaign with the launch of the new eBay Stores logo. The new logo will be marketed on the eBay Stores site pages, buyer and seller facing placements throughout the eBay site, emails, direct mail and other communications vehicles. This initiative will continue throughout the rest of the year to increase awareness of the benefits of eBay Stores.
