Quality Stamp Photos Get Results
Whether you're selling stamps, coins, or paper money, quality photos are a must. Crisp obverse and reverse photos increase confidence and reduce misunderstandings.

For fast, quality photos every time, invest in a flatbed scanner. There's no more effective and efficient way to image flat objects, such as coins, stamps, or currency. Quality manufacturers include ADF, MicorTek, UMAX.

Use these tips for high-quality stamp scans:
  • Do not scan stamps loose. Scan each stamp in a clear cover to prevent any damage. (Clear covers will not reduce the scan's clarity or sharpness.)

  • For dark items, use a black back cover (not white) to create contrast.

  • Affix an adhesive label to each cover. Write the stamp's stock number on the label. We recommend Avery label #18167.

  • Use the inventory number for the scan file name.
If you are considering a purchase of new equipment, make sure your computer is compatible, expect some learning curve, and weigh the saving of time verses cost. Also, don't forget to get recommendations from your friends.

Benefit with Gallery
Catch the eye of discriminating stamp collectors with eBay's economical yet powerful Gallery feature, placing thumbnail images of your items on category listing pages.

It works -- consider these eBay statistics. Items with Gallery are 8%* more likely to sell on average. eBay research also has found that Gallery increases final price by an average of 11%*.

So, why does Gallery work? Like eBay's Bold or Featured Plus enhancements, Gallery:
  • Gives your antiques wider exposure and attracts more bidders. Item thumbnails appear on category and search pages and in the Gallery View.

Tip: Want more exposure? Couple Gallery with Featured Plus, placing your item above competing category listings in the higher-visibility Featured Items section.

  • Distinguishes your items from other seller listings. Thumbnail photos increase credibility and interest, encouraging greater traffic and bidding.

  • Enables bidders to view your items at a glance, saving them valuable time.
Adding Gallery to your listings is simple and hassle-free, too. Your images are automatically resized by eBay. And, if you use Turbo Lister or Seller's Assistant Pro, Gallery is included.

Value It: Include Estimates in Your Stamp Listings
There's an easy way to make your next stamp listing look more professional? Include an item estimate in the description!

A precise estimate lends authenticity to your stamps and credibility to your business.

Consider the benefits of estimating your items:
  • Fair estimates build trust between buyers and sellers. Buyers search out sellers who properly value their objects.

  • Tip: Couple your estimate with a money-back guarantee to give it added weight.

  • Good estimates protect no-reserve auction listings. Enthusiasts bid to win, causing items to meet and exceed their fair market value.

  • Credible estimates help establish markets and increase an item's cache. Create a buzz, and enthusiasts will bid higher and more frequently.

  • Tip: Properly describe and photograph your item to give your estimate greater credibility. What else? Include your business phone.

  • Solid estimates quickly attract an item's target market for faster sales. Collectors appreciate estimates as they save research time and reduce confusion.
Become a market maker and a customer favorite. Include an educated estimate in your next stamp listing!

garyposnerinc (1080), Gary Posner Stamps
Acquiring New Customers
After 25 successful years in the stamps business, Gary Posner was looking for a way to revitalize his company. The answer was eBay.

"About a year ago, I began losing customers," Posner recalls when reached via cell phone from a stamps show in Anaheim, California. "It was for different reasons -- the general economy, people losing jobs. But the number that I lost was just too high. My business was off 30 percent. I couldn't accept that. I needed a way to get new customers."

And that's exactly what has happened. Since turning to eBay, Gary Posner Stamps has acquired more than a thousand new customers and earned a PowerSeller rating. Also, Posner's total sales have surpassed $1 million in less than 2 years on eBay, and the company has aggressive goals of reaching over $5 million in total sales by the end of 2004.

Leveraging his existing name and reputation has been the key, according to Posner. He "brands" his listings by including the company's acronym (GPS) in each auction title. Additionally, his username features the company name. He also has opened an eBay Store, allowing him to include his business name at the top of each View Item page.

Another priority: shipping items quickly. . Most orders go out within 24 hours, unless Posner is attending a stamp show. Posner further distinguishes his business with listings that feature not only images of the stamps themselves but their certificates of authenticity as well. According to Posner, any stamp that's over $100 includes the additional certificate image.

Although this takes more time, Posner says it's well worth the effort: "I want people to feel comfortable. If you buy a $1,000 stamp, you want to know what you're getting."
