FAQs

How does the valet selling service work?

It's a new and simple way to sell your stuff on eBay. Valets sell your items on your behalf, and you receive 70% of the proceeds of the sales for items that sell. There are two ways to sell:

  • In select locations, you can easily bring your items to an eBay Drop Off Center. Click here (URL to EDOC page) to find a location near you
  • If you have a number of smaller items, you can make a request online to have a free pre-paid label emailed to you or a free box with a pre-paid shipping label sent to your house, so you can send your items at no cost to you. Mail-in is available nationwide.
How are the price, format and duration for my item listing determined?
Valets will research similar listings on eBay (sold within the last 90 days) to determine the best price and format (auction or fixed price) for your items. Items are listed for a maximum of 2 weeks on eBay before they are considered unsold. The valets have expertise in determining the price, format, and duration of the listings, and are unable to accommodate specific requests in this regard.
What happens to my items that do not sell?
Any items that aren't listed or don't sell can be returned to you for a nominal shipping charge. To make sure you are increasing your chance of selling success, make sure to send items that valets have found to sell best on eBay. Click here for ideas of what sells well. The return charge for an order that was mailed in is $10 and for an order that was picked up is $25. The shipping charge will be deducted from the proceeds of the items you sell.
What type of items will valets take?

Look around your house—the items that sell best on eBay are everywhere: Electronics, collectibles, musical instruments, designer clothing, shoes and handbags...the list is extensive. Valets accept new and like-new items that are in excellent condition with a retail value of at least $25. We cannot accept items which are soiled, stained, damaged, not working or are generally in poor condition. Items with a retail value of less than $25 may also not be accepted.

What items sell best?
  • Electronics such as phones, tablets and laptops
  • Antiques & Collectibles such as early issues of comics, rare baseball cards, vintage toys and crystal ornaments by brands like Swarovski and Lladro
  • Musical instruments like trumpets, flutes, and clarinets.
  • Clothes and shoes new with tags or in great condition. Designer brands sell best such as 7 For All Mankind, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, Calvin Klein, Express, Gucci, Guess, Hugo Boss, J. Crew, Kate Spade, Nine West and Ralph Lauren
  • Automotive parts and accessories
  • Sporting goods & accessories such as 25 clubs and camping gear
  • High-end kitchen appliances including blenders and mixers by brands like Kitchen Aid, Vitamix and Breville (excluding dishes and glassware)
What types of items are excluded from being picked up as part of the eBay valet program?

What condition should my items be?
Your items must be in excellent, new or like-new condition and should function properly.
Can I track the sale of my items?
Yes. If your items are listed on eBay, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to view your item listings.
Is a selling fee or percentage of the sale proceeds deducted from my total sales earnings?
Yes, there will be a 30% fee deducted from the total sales value of your items.
Why is the starting auction price of my item listing so low?

Lower auction starting prices will draw bidders in from a global community of 100+ million members and help you get the highest price for your items.  Valets will price your item in the best way to maximize sales.  If you believe your item should have a higher starting price, let valets know, but keep in mind that a higher starting price may draw in fewer bidders.

Please note—with auction listings, the great majority of demand occurs in the last 24 hours of the auction. So don't be concerned if your item price is still at or near the starting price days into the auction. The end of the auction is often the most exciting time!

Are shipping costs deducted from the sale proceeds?
You don't have to worry about shipping. Shipping costs will be charged to the ultimate buyer of your items and are not your responsibility.
Can I tell the valets how or at what price they should sell my item?
The valets have expertise in determining the price, format, and duration of the listings, and are unable to accommodate specific requests in this regard. However, if there are some specific details about your item that you’d like valets to keep in mind while listing the item, please indicate on the form that comes along with the box or shipping label that you request or available at the drop-off center.
Is eBay selling or picking up/receiving my items?
We have partnered with third party processing companies to serve as valets. The partners are listed in the Terms of Use.  eBay does not pick up or receive your items and does not list items for sale.
How do I become a valet?
Valets are carefully screened for inclusion in the program.  Requirements include, but are not limited to: (1) ability to list 100,000 listings each month, (2) storage capacity sufficient to hold and manage items received for at least 21 calendar days, (3) ability to list items across all eBay categories, (4) physical presence in all major metropolitan hubs in the U.S. and (5) demonstrated ability to reach Top Rated Seller status on eBay within 90 days of starting valet services.  If you’d like to be considered for inclusion in the program as a valet, contact us at sellforme@ebay.com with a proposal.
Mail-in related questions

How big is the box used in the mail-in program?
The box is similar in size to six cereal boxes stacked together. The dimensions are 12”x12”x12”. If your items don’t fit in this box, please feel free to use the shipping label that comes with the box on any other box of your choice. The shipping label will be valid for any box, as long as the total weight is under 25 lbs.
What happens if my items are damaged or lost?
If your item is lost or damaged while in a valet’s possession, you will be reimbursed based on the value of comparable items sold on eBay.com in the last 90 days. If your items are lost or damaged while in transit, you can contact our customer service team to file a claim with the shipping carriers. The boxes are insured up to $100, but the actual payout amount is determined by the carrier based on their investigation. You may also buy additional insurance from shipping carriers when shipping your item. We recommend you ask for a receipt when handing over your items to the carrier. For more information please refer to the Terms of Use and the shipping carrier’s terms.
How long does it take to sell my items from the time I send them to the valets?
Once your items are received by the valets (which could take 5-10 business days after you ship them), they are typically listed on eBay within 4 business days. The items will be listed for a maximum of 2 weeks before they are considered unsold. Once all of your items are either sold, or deemed unsold/unlistable, you will be paid out within 4 business days in most cases. Depending on your return preference, unsold items will be returned to you within 4 business days too. Please note that while valets make every effort to finish the processing within these times, situations like extreme weather conditions and unexpected volume levels may delay some parts of the process. Please feel free to contact eBay customer service if you have any questions.
Is there a limit on how many items I can send in?
There is no limit on the number of items you can send in. However, if you are using the shipping label provided by the valets, the total weight of items in any one box should be less than 25 lbs.
I lost the box or shipping label provided to me. What should I do?
Every user has a limited number of boxes/labels they can request. If you haven’t reached the limit, feel free to request another box/label.
