FAQ Frequently Asked Questions [Expand all | Collapse]

How will I know if I'm a Top Rated Seller?

On the 20th of each month, eBay evaluates your status and will send you an email before the end of the month to let you know that you've met the current standards. Check your Seller Dashboard for your current status.

Do I have to offer returns and 1-day or shorter handling?

No, you can choose which listings to offer returns and 1-day or shorter handling. But remember: only those listings offering both services will qualify for the 20% discount on your final value fees and highest average boost in Best Match.

Why did eBay replace the Top Rated Seller badge with the new Top Rated Plus seal?

The Top Rated Plus seal will appear on each listing that offers 1-day or shorter handling time and 14-day or longer money back returns policy. When buyers see the seal, they'll know the item ships fast—from an experienced seller—and they can return the item, hassle-free, within a reasonable window of time.

Are there any listings that may be exempt from offering 1-day or shorter handling and 14-day or better returns that are eligible for the Top Rated Plus seal?

To qualify for the Top Rated Plus seal, a listing must be from a Top Rated Seller, as well as offer both 1-day or shorter handling and a 14-day or better return policy. There are no exceptions.

Top Rated Sellers will continue to be eligible for the 20% final value fee discount on listings within the Bullion, Gift Cards and Tickets categories that offer 1-day or shorter handling, but do not accept returns. Similarly, listings from Top Rated Sellers offering a freight shipping service and a 14-day or better return policy will also be eligible for the discount without offering 1-day or shorter handling time. However, to qualify for the Top Rated Plus seal, the exceptions mentioned above will need to offer both 1-day or shorter handling and 14-day or better returns policy.

Are there any listings that may be ineligible for the Top Rated Plus seal?

Listings created on Half.com, items listed only in the Real Estate and Specialty Services categories and listings offering only local pick-up, will not qualify for the Top Rated Plus seal.

What and when is the evaluation cycle?

eBay Top Rated Seller status is evaluated on the 20th of each month. For all criteria except tracking, sellers with 400 or more transactions over the past three months are evaluated on their transactions with US buyers from the last three calendar months. For all other sellers, the rates are calculated from transactions with US buyers over the last 12 calendar months. For the new tracking requirement, the look-back period is as follows:

Evaluation date: Tracking measured from:
July 20 June 1–30
August 20 June 1–July 31
September 20 June 1–August 31

From that point onward, we will look back at the previous three calendar months of transactions to determine your tracking upload rate.

If I lose my eBay Top Rated Seller status, can I get it back?

Yes, if you lose your eBay Top Rated Seller status, we'll send you an email notification and you'll see the change in status on your Seller Dashboard. When you once again meet the criteria, you'll be automatically reinstated and will qualify for benefits on the next evaluation date. You can always check your Seller Dashboard to see where you stand.

Are there exceptions to the tracking requirement?

Yes, the following items will not be required to have tracking uploaded to meet the Top Rated Seller tracking requirement:

  • Unpaid items or cancelled transactions
  • Transactions marked as offering freight shipping
  • When a buyer selects local pick-up
  • Classified Ads
  • Motor Vehicles
  • Real Estate
  • Travel > Lodging, Vacation Packages, Cruises and Airline
