eBay's Shipping Calculator automatically calculates USPS and UPS shipping costs for your buyers based on the size and weight of the packaged item and the location of the seller and buyer. Currently, the Shipping Calculator provides the carriers' retail rate for shipping costs, the UPS Daily Rates, and the rates for the UPS Special Pricing Program for eBay Sellers. With this change, you can specify a discount off the retail rates for both domestic and international shipments in the Shipping Calculator.
In the "Give buyers shipping details" section of the selling form, select "Calculated: Cost varies by buyer location."
Like many sellers, you may be receiving discounts from UPS or USPS off the regular rates. This change allows you to specify a discount to your buyers—one discount for domestic and one for international—to better reflect your true cost of shipping and make your listings more attractive to buyers.
You can choose to apply a discount of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 50, 60, and 70 percent off of the retail domestic and international rates.
To set your discounts follow these steps:
- Go to the Account tab in My eBay and choose "Site Preferences"
- Find "Shipping Preferences" and click "show" on the right
- Find "Offer Discounts in the Shipping Calculator" and click "edit"
- Specify the type of discount and the amount of the discount and click "Save"
Your listings with the Shipping Calculator will be updated automatically.

- If you ship USPS and print your labels on eBay or PayPal, save 5% on domestic USPS Express Mail retail prices and up to 11% on USPS Priority Mail retail prices.
- Sign up for the UPS Special Pricing Program for eBay sellers and set the "Offer discounts in the Shipping Calculator" to "Daily." When you print UPS shipping labels with PayPal, eligible sellers can save up to 31% compared to rates paid by occasional shippers.
- Powersellers and eBay Top-rated sellers eBay can save even more with UPS - up to 23% off UPS Ground Daily rates, by enrolling in the UPS Savings Program for eBay PowerSellers.
- You can specify this discount using the shipping preference "Offer discounts in the Shipping Calculator" and pass the discount to your buyer. Since the discount that you receive from UPS is based on Daily Rates, recalculate the discount based on retail rates and enter that number in this preference. Once you have set a discount percentage please check the rates using the Shipping Calculator to make sure that the discounted rates are accurate.
- Individually negotiated contracts between sellers and UPS are based on UPS Daily rates.
- You can specify a discount using the shipping preference "Offer discounts in the Shipping Calculator" and pass the discount to your buyer. Since the discount that you receive from UPS is based on Daily Rates, recalculate the discount based on retail rates and enter that number in this preference. Once you have set a discount percentage please check the rates using the Shipping Calculator to make sure that the discounted rates are accurate.
