Why is eBay offering protection plans?
A trusted buying experience is one of the most important things shoppers look for when making purchase decisions—particularly for more expensive items. While the eBay Buyer Protection program will cover buyers if there's a problem with the purchase of an item, buyers currently are not covered if the item breaks or is accidentally damaged outside of any applicable manufacturer protection plan period. Offering buyers extended protection plans on products purchased on eBay is another way we're helping give buyers peace of mind when shopping on eBay.
Will it be clear to buyers that they're not purchasing the protection plan from the seller but directly from SquareTrade or Assurant Solutions?
Yes. The provider name will be displayed in front of the plan as the buyer is selecting a protection plan. Once the protection plan has been placed in the cart, the full plan name, including selected provider will be displayed clearly showing that the provider is either SquareTrade or Assurant Solutions. All post-transaction documentation and communication with the buyer will come directly from the relevant vendor.
How do I qualify to have protection plans on eBay offered on my listings?
There's no action required. Protection plans will be featured on listings that meet the following criteria:
- Items in eligible Electronics, Parts & Accessories, Auto Tools and Home & Garden categories on eBay.com
- Above standard and have at least 20 feedback
- All item conditions with the exception of "for parts" listings
- All items with a selling price of $40 or higher
Why aren't protection plans on eBay offered in all categories?
We are currently offering protection plans in Electronics, Parts & Accessories, Auto Tools and Home & Garden categories based on overwhelming feedback from our buyers. In the future, we plan to expand this program to even more categories.
Are all items eligible for protection plans?
Protection plan eligibility of each listing is determined by a number of factors — price, condition, category. eBay will automatically associate the eligible protection plan with each listing.
Are SquareTrade or Assurant Solutions protection plans on eBay available to International buyers?
SquareTrade protection plans on eBay are available to residents of the US and Canada. Assurant Solution protection plans are only available to residents of the US.
Are protection plans on eBay valid in all states?
Assurant Solutions protections are only valid in the United States. SquareTrade protection plans on eBay are valid nationwide in both the US and Canada. They are also valid for APO and FPO addresses, and Puerto Rico.
If buyers purchase an item on eBay along with a SquareTrade protection plan then want to sell the item later, is the protection plan transferable to the new owner?
Yes, when you sell an item that is covered by a SquareTrade protection plan, any coverage originally purchased with the item is still in effect and fully transferable.
I already offer protection plans on the items I sell, can I opt out of this program?
No. SquareTrade or Assurant Solutions protection plans on eBay will be offered on all eligible listings. You are also free to continue market and offer your own protection plans on your listings.
What should I do if my customer contacts me about an item that is broken or damaged and covered by a SquareTrade or Assurant Solutions protection plan they purchased on eBay?
