  • Experiment, experiment! Try different things with your listings to see what works. If your listings do not sell initially, do not get discouraged - keep experimenting - you may just not have found the winning formula yet.

  • Try your first services listing with auction-style format and a low starting price. The low starting price will attract more interested bidders. The winning bid price will help you understand how much eBay users are willing to pay for your unique service.

  • Include a Buy It Now (BIN) price in your auction-style listing. Buyers who urgently need your services can purchase immediately. In addition, the BIN price communicates the value you place on your unique service.

  • Be very specific about the service you are offering - particularly for options that will increase your costs. For example:
    • How many times will you revise the design based on buyer feedback?
    • Which models of a computer or camera will you repair?
    • For which sizes will you make a custom dress?
    • What are the buyers options for materials, color, size, etc.?

If an option won't increase your costs, be flexible - and tell prospective buyers that you will be flexible. They'll pay a higher price!

  • Choose the best title:
    • Think of all the words bidders might use to search for your item - many bidders only search item titles. Test out words in Search to see which types of listings come up.
    • Be very specific - make your listing title stand out when prospective buyers are browsing listings.
    • Make intelligent use of your title space- bidders don't search for words like "wow".

  • Experiment with listing your service in two categories: the Specialty Services category and the category most closely related to your service. For example, if you are listing camera repair services, list in the Specialty Services and Camera categories.

  • Avoid miscommunication by describing the item well:
    • Payment: When does the winning bidder need to contact you? What payment types will you accept?
    • Buyer specifications: How should the buyer communicate their personalization, customization or other service preferences to you? When do you need this information?
    • Fulfillment: When will the service be delivered? Will you show the buyer a preliminary design? When?

  • Include photographs of past work
    • Choose relevant, good quality photographs

  • Open an eBay Store and list additional services or service packages as Good 'Til Cancelled Store listings - the insertion fee is only $0.05 per 30 days!
    • Cross-sell your eBay Store service listings in your product listings - e.g. cross-sell watch repair in your watch parts auctions.
    • Cross-sell a broader range of services or service packages listed in your eBay Store in your service listings.
    • eBay Store listings are a great way to list local services on eBay - although your services may only be accessible to buyers in your local area, the insertion fees are low enough to deliver an attractive profit margin .
