- The eBay Choice Listings policy - what is permitted?
- In most cases, eBay prohibits sellers of pre-made products to allow buyers to choose from a selection of items. Such "choice listings" can be problematic because of the potential for fee circumvention, transactions outside of eBay and other issues. Choice listings are generally not allowed and will be ended. The Insertion Fee will be automatically credited for that listing.
- Services are a notable exception from the Choice Listing policy. Listings may offer custom-made items or services that are created or customized to the buyer's specification such as made to order clothing. Sellers that list custom-made items or other services in the Specialty Services category may include a list of available options in the item description (e.g. colors, fabrics, sizes). All offered options must be provided at no additional charge to the buyer.

- How do I put my service into a listing?
- Virtually all services can be turned into a listing with some creativity. Specify the most common "package" of your service. For instance, if you are offering custom web design, you might create a listing for the design of a 10 page web site with up to 3 revisions.
- Try listing different packages of your service and in each listing link to your other service listings. This will enable potential buyers bid on the package of your services that best fits what they need.
- Why should I list my service in the Specialty Services category rather than the category most closely related to the item I am providing the service for?
- We will be promoting the Specialty Services category to buyers.
- We have also developed services-specific policies that facilitate the sale of services. By listing in the Specialty Services category, these policies will be applicable to your listing.
- If there is another category on eBay that is closely related to the service you are offering, try listing in two categories.
- How does the feedback system work for services?
- What are the fees to list in the Specialty Services category?
- The fees in the Specialty Services category are the same as those for items listed in other categories on eBay (except eBay Motors and eBay Real Estate). Click here to learn more.
- When should I collect payment from my buyer?
- This is up to you as a seller. Many service sellers use standard eBay payment rules - buyer pays in full upfront. However, some service sellers ask for 50% of fees upfront and the remainder when the service is complete. It is your choice as the seller - just make sure you clearly specific this in the item description.
- Can I use PayPal for payment for services?
- Yes. PayPal works the same for services as for products.
- Note, PayPal's Seller Protection Policy only applies to tangible goods. Since comparable widely-accepted proof-of-shipment methods are not currently available for intangible goods and services, PayPal does not offer Seller Protection for digital goods and other electronically-delivered items.
