Selling Restrictions Overview
eBay is committed to preventing the sale of unlawful goods on our platform. Apart from the fact that such items are illegal, eBay’s success as a business depends on a climate of community confidence. The presence of unlawful goods on the eBay platform undermines the eBay Community’s confidence and harms legitimate sellers, buyers and eBay.

In order to help maintain a safer trading environment, selling restrictions are occasionally placed on accounts (e.g., in connection with certain types or categories of goods that eBay understands from brand owners may be at higher risk of violating eBay policies or third party rights). These selling limits are not specific to any one account, and affect selling practices more broadly.

Listing items in larger quantities:
Sellers who have built a good selling track record may be eligible to have account restrictions modified. If you feel you qualify, and would like eBay to review your account, please review the Frequently Asked Questions below on how to request modification of selling restrictions.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. While I am restricted, what types of categories am I limited to sell in during a 30 day rolling period?

eBay is committed to reducing fraud and negative buying experiences on our site. In order to help maintain a safer trading environment, restrictions are occasionally put in place (e.g., in connection with certain types or categories of goods that eBay understands from brand owners may be at a higher risk of violating eBay policies or third party rights).

2. Why do I have to be a registered eBay member for at least three months before I sell higher quantities of items of this category or type?

eBay may require sellers to be registered for a minimum period of time in order to sell items of certain categories or types. These added security measures are designed to give sellers time to build a positive track record, which is an essential part of the eBay experience.

3. Why is eBay requiring certain sellers to become PayPal verified?

The PayPal Verification process is a way for eBay to gain additional assurance regarding a member's identity. This added verification is designed to reduce fraud, other unlawful activities, and negative buying experiences on eBay.

Note: Becoming PayPal verified doesn’t mean you have to offer PayPal as a payment option in your listing(s).

4. How do I become PayPal Verified?

There are two ways to become PayPal verified:
  • Add and confirm your bank account.
  • Get approved for a PayPal Plus Credit Card or PayPal Buyer Credit.

5. May I get the selling restrictions removed from my account?

Sellers who have a good track record on our site and are confident in the authenticity and origin of their items may be eligible to have their selling limits increased. Considerations for determining whether to increase selling limits include, among other factors:
  • Positive buyer feedback
  • No unresolved disputes with buyers
  • Selling history (minimum three months) and activity as a seller on the site
  • Absence of feedback questioning the authenticity of the item(s)
  • PayPal verification
  • Compliance with eBay policies
  • General good standing of the account
Please review your account to see if you meet the above factors; if you feel you qualify, email us and we’ll be happy to review your account.

6. What if I need to revise an item I’ve already listed?

If there’s a revision you think could significantly affect the final value of the item you’re selling, and you’re not able to make the change yourself, get in touch with us and we may be able to allow a one-time revision for you.

7. What can I do if I do not qualify or if my request is denied?

Contact us after 90 days at the following link and we’ll review your account again. In the meantime, we encourage you to continue to build a positive selling history on eBay and to comply with all policies. Be sure to visit your seller dashboard to see your progress, view your buyer’s satisfaction level, and keep your account in good standing.

Please note that if you do not qualify to have these restrictions removed at this time, please check back in 30 days as you may be able to list more items of this category or type at that time. These selling limits only apply to certain categories or types of items, so you may continue listing different items subject to eBay policies and restrictions.

8. Will one and three-day listings no longer be available on eBay?

One and three-day listings will continue to be available for certain categories or types of items. In some instances sellers may not be able to list using the one or three-day auction format. This is done in an effort to prevent potential abuses of these short auction times, and in order to help assist law enforcement authorities and rights owners.
