At eBay, we know that it's our job to help you grow your business by continuing to attract new customers for your products. After talking with thousands of real-life shoppers, we've found that many customers are looking to buy new, fixed price goods in a more conventional e-commerce experience. To meet their needs, we are building a new specialty site— eBay Express.

Designed from the inside out to attract and satisfy today's busy shoppers, eBay Express will streamline access to your products.

With eBay Express buyers will:

Get it new. Shop our vast inventory of brand new, brand name, and hard-to-find products.
Get it now. Everything on eBay Express is offered at a fixed price by experienced, motivated eBay merchants. Get what you want now— no bidding, no waiting.
Fill a shopping cart. Buy from as many eBay Express merchants as you want. Pay for everything—including shipping— in a single, secure payment using PayPal or your credit card.
Buy with confidence. Every transaction is safe, secure, and fully covered by eBay Express Purchase Protection.

1. What is eBay Express? Why should you shop here?

eBay Express is a new eBay shopping site that gives you a fast and easy way to breeze through all your shopping needs. You’ll find great deals from reputable merchants on new, name brand, and hard-to-find merchandise. You can purchase products right away—for just about everything you could need or want, from designer jeans, to a complete home theatre system.

Everything on eBay Express is available for immediate purchase at a fixed price so you're assured of getting the items you want now, with no bidding and no waiting for auctions to end.

2. Why was a new site created? What about Buy it Now?

eBay Express was designed with the input of thousands of real-life shoppers who wanted a quicker and easier way to find and pay for new, fixed priced items on eBay.com. The site was designed with today's busy shopper in mind. Shoppers will find quick and easy ways to search and browse, a shopping cart and payments via credit card or PayPal.

With the introduction of eBay Express, all Buy It Now listings will still be shown on eBay.com— however a portion of Buy It Now and Stores Inventory Format Listings will also be shown on eBay Express.

When you visit eBay Express, you'll have a streamlined point of entry to the best of the vast eBay inventory. The goal is to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible for you to find great deals on whatever you need, every day.

3. Who is eBay Express for?

We think eBay Express will encourage more shopping among our existing buyers, who today may only buy on eBay for certain purposes or types of products. We also think it will attract new buyers to eBay who prefer a more conventional e-commerce shopping experience.

Both types of shoppers will find eBay Express gives them a choice of easy, natural, and inspiring ways to shop and browse. So whether they know exactly what they want or they're looking for ideas, their shopping experience will be fun and satisfying.

4. When will eBay Express launch?

eBay Express will launch in Spring 2006. You'll find us (later this year) at: express.ebay.com. Both eBay Express and our experienced, eBay merchants are looking forward to serving you.

5. How will eBay market eBay Express?

eBay Express will be heavily marketed to existing eBay customers and potential eBay Express customers. This Spring you'll find eBay Express marketing on eBay.com and through Internet search engines. Later in the year you'll catch eBay Express advertising on TV, radio and print.

6. How can I pay for an item?

Payments are made easy on eBay Express. You can pay for everything—including shipping— in a single, secure payment using PayPal or your credit card. Both methods are safe and secure and processed by PayPal. PayPal pays the merchant without ever sharing your financial information. And your purchases are covered in full by eBay Express Purchase Protection.

7. Will eBay Express have only new products?

No. eBay Express will allow shoppers to buy products ranging from new, used, refurbished and more. When shoppers visit eBay Express and search for products of interest, the search results will return new products as the default view, with used products one click away. This will make shopping on eBay Express easy and convenient for today’s busy shopper. In order to correctly display search results, eBay Express merchants will need to fill in the item condition field (e.g., New, Used, Refurbished) in Item Specifics to specify the condition of their products. 8. How can I sell on eBay Express?

We're glad you asked. We want to partner with you to make eBay Express a success and grow your business.

We designed eBay Express to be easy on our eBay sellers. While eBay Express will be a specialty site, it'll be part of the eBay marketplace, so Store and Fixed Price listings that qualify will automatically appear on both eBay.com and eBay Express - at no additional cost. Many sellers will benefit from the additional exposure without having to list their inventory twice, or change the way they sell. As a seller, your existing eBay listings will be automatically submitted for consideration for eBay Express, unless you choose to opt-out. Follow these three easy steps to selling on eBay Express.

Step 1: Sell on eBay.com
We're consciously making the buying experience on eBay Express different. And to deliver on that experience, we'll be opening eBay Express to sellers who have a positive track record on the site. eBay Express merchants will be experienced eBay sellers with a Feedback score of at least 100 (98% positive) and a public feedback profile. This sets the bar to give our shoppers both the assurance and breadth of selection they need. And it rewards eBay sellers with ready access to an exciting new market.

Step 2: Become a PayPal Premier or PayPal Business merchant
eBay Express will be powered by PayPal, world leader in secure online payment technology. With a Premier or Business PayPal account, you'll be positioned to take full advantage of this great new sales channel.

Step 3: Meet the selling requirements
Meet a few basic requirements and your qualified eBay listings will automatically appear on eBay Express. List your items in Store or Fixed Price Format. Be sure to include a photo, item condition, and shipping costs. For more information about selling on eBay Express, read our Seller Checklist below.

9. Are there any differences between selling on eBay Express versus eBay?

Selling on eBay Express is the same as selling on eBay. Remember, an eBay Express listing is an eBay.com listing. Therefore the same selling policies, seller protection, feedback and qualification for PowerSeller status on eBay apply to eBay Express.

The one exception is that payments are made at the point of purchase, so sellers will not experience unpaid items on eBay Express. With unpaid items being resolved, certain eBay bidder requirements are no longer applicable on eBay Express.

eBay Express listings and transactions are not marked as eBay Express. They appear as regular eBay.com listings and transactions in My eBay, Sales Reports, or site emails.

10. Will my feedback carry over to eBay Express and vice versa?

Yes. Your eBay feedback will carry over to eBay Express. Likewise, your eBay Express feedback will carry over to eBay.

11. Why is eBay Express US-only? Are there plans to allow cross-border trade?

Before launching eBay Express across the world, we want to try it in one market - the US. We plan to allow cross-border trade at a later date. Canada will be the next country to sell on eBay Express. Stay tuned.

12. How do I provide comments or suggestions about eBay Express?

We’re anxious to hear your thoughts and ideas about eBay Express. Please send us your feedback on eBay Express at eBayExpressFeedback@ebay.com. Although we won’t be able to respond to each email, be assured we’ll read your comments and improve the final eBay Express design.

13. What is the seller or listing criteria for eBay Express?

Seller Criteria

Maintain a feedback score of 100 or more, 98% positive or better
Maintain a public feedback profile (e.g., no private feedback)
Support your listings with a PayPal Premier or PayPal Business account
Ensure your PayPal account settings are set to ship to unconfirmed addresses or make sale-by-sale decisions (“Ask me for unconfirmed addresses”)
Be registered as a US or CA seller

Listing Criteria

List on eBay.com
List in Fixed Price or Store Inventory format
Fill in the item condition field (i.e. New, Used, Refurbished) in Item Specifics. (some categories exempted)
Use Pre-Filled Item Information for listings within Books, DVDs & Movies, Music, & Video Games.
Include shipping costs (flat, calculated or free) in the shipping fields
Provide a picture or gallery
Use eBay checkout or the new checkout integration API (for 3rd party order processing)
Items must be located in the US

Category Criteria

The majority of eBay.com categories will be included eBay Express. Categories that do not require item condition, but will be included in eBay Express are listed here.

Categories that are not included in eBay Express at launch are those not covered by PayPal Buyer Protection or categories where Category Managers are still working with the community on representing their categories in eBay Express. These categories are listed here.

14. What’s the best way to fill in or edit the Item Condition in my listings?

We’ve made it easy for sellers to prepare their listings so they’ll be available on eBay Express. The current bulk edit functionality within My eBay and Selling Manager has been updated to allow sellers to add or edit the Item Condition for up to 25 listings at one time. More information on this enhancement here.

As a reminder, specifying item condition on a listing is one of the requirements for it to appear on eBay Express. We hope this enhancement to the bulk editor functionality makes updating listings faster and easier for sellers who are looking forward to the increased exposure eBay Express will bring to their listings – at no additional cost.

15. What if a category does not have Item Condition – will it be included in eBay Express?

There are categories where traditional item condition values like New, Used or Refurbished are not applicable, such as those with items like magazine subscriptions and Vintage Fishing Reels. In these categories, we will not be introducing Item Condition values prior to the launch of eBay Express. However, a portion of the categories that do not have item condition will be included in eBay Express at launch because the condition of the product is easily understood by looking at item titles. The rest of the categories that do not have item condition will not be included in eBay Express at launch. 16. Why do you require shipping to unconfirmed address? What about Seller Protection?

Buyers used to the typical e-commerce experience often ship their purchases to multiple addresses. For example, a buyer may ship his/her purchases to a work or gift recipient address. Shipping addresses that are not the buyer’s billing address are typically unconfirmed addresses.

As eBay Express is designed to attract buyers looking for a more conventional e-commerce experience, we allow buyers to have their purchases shipped to unconfirmed addresses.

PayPal Seller Protection continues to cover all eBay Express transactions that meet the program requirements. Shipping to unconfirmed addresses will disqualify a transaction from PayPal’s Seller Protection. We recommend sellers evaluate the potential increase in sales from selling to more buyers against the risk of losing PayPal Seller Protection for some of those sales.

Tools to manage risks:

To ensure you only do business with confirmed addresses, you can remove your listings from eBay Express.

Opt-out from eBay Express using the My eBay Preference and/or
Set your PayPal account to “block payments from unconfirmed addresses”.

To decide on a sale-by-sale basis whether you will accept unconfirmed addresses,

Set your PayPal account to “Ask me before accepting payments from unconfirmed addresses”. Just like eBay.com today, buyers can still leave feedback even if the select rejects the buyer’s payment.

17. Can I opt-out from eBay Express?

Yes. Your eBay listings are automatically submitted for eBay Express consideration unless you choose to opt-out. You can opt-out by updating your seller preferences in My eBay.

18. How does the eBay Express finding experience differ from eBay.com?

eBay Express has a new search experience that is different from eBay.com.

New category structure. eBay Express offers up to 3 levels of categories. A listing may appear in more than one category, e.g. Printers may be found in “Computers & Networking > Printers” and “Office Supplies > Printers”.

Results sorted by “best matches”. Results are sorted on relevancy against the buyer’s search by default. Searching brings back listings that may not be an exact keyword match and sorts them based on a range of factors. The buyer is able to re-sort by total cost, i.e. item price plus shipping cost.

This new search experience was piloted last summer as “Testing a new way to Shop”. We have incorporated the Community’s feedback into the eBay Express finding experience.

19. Can I use my eBay Gift Certificate for purchases on eBay Express?

No. eBay Gift Certificates are not redeemable for eBay Express purchases.

20. Can I use my eBay Coupon for purchases on eBay Express?

No. eBay Coupons are not redeemable for eBay Express purchases.
