What is Search By Category?
Search by Category is a new feature that enables you to find items easier, faster, and better! When you search by category, you receive a list of the top categories in which your search results appear. You can click on any of these categories to further refine your search.

How does it work?
Whenever you conduct a search from anywhere on eBay, the Matching Categories box will display a list of up to three top-level categories that contain items matching your search query. Each top-level category will also show up to three sub-categories. All of these categories are ranked by the number of items found in each category.
When you click on one of the top-level categories, Matching Categories will then show all of the sub-categories that also have matching items. You can continue to narrow your search until there are no sub-categories left to display.
What has changed?
Overall, the Search results page has been reorganized to group functions logically and appear more consistent with the Browse experience. In addition, a left-hand navigational area has been created to contain all the Basic Search and refinement functions in one place.
Why were these changes made?
Many users have found the Search by Category functionality (previously only accessible via Advanced Search) highly useful and expressed a desire for this search method to become available for every search on eBay. In addition, users have found the varying layouts and functionalities between Browse and Search confusing, so we have endeavored to make these two experiences as consistent as possible.
