The eyes have it good A bold pair of shades won't just protect your peepers from that big, blistering orb in the sky-they'll also change your look, and possibly your life. The crave-worthiest styles right now are sporty shields,
oversized Jackie O's, futuristic rimless specs, and cool cat eyes. In the shield field, inspired by motocross/jockey/NASCAR stars, lenses range from iridescent midnight blue mirrors to lavender, yellow
and mint tints. The best of the bunch include Miu Miu's metal-trimmed model and Dior's fantastic plastics. Miss-or missed-the sixties? Go for the O (Jackie, natch) in lucite, all-over amber (Marc Jacobs) or anything in tortoise shell, solid black or bright white. When you're in mod mode, remember that bigger is better, so don't panic if your shades take up half of your face-they're supposed to.
Chanel and Calvin Klein went back to the (rimless) future, along with Donna Karan, who gave hers rubber arms for maximum flexibility. Feeling frisky? Don a pair of cat eyes (Julia Roberts lives in hers). Oliver Peoples, Michael Kors, LA Eyeworks and Kate Spade all did the forties feline look and the consensus is they're purrrrrfect. |

Turquoise takes off! The blue-green stone will forever be associated with hippie chicks and Georgia O'Keefe western wear, but trust me this gem is haute to go! Models were practically tripping over turquoise clothing and jewelry on the Paris runways, from Valentino to Dolce & Gabbana,
from Issey Miyake to Celine. Even on the most decadent pieces-like stone-studded footwear from Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik
and Dolce & Gabbana-there's something downright earthy about this heavenly stone. The gem itself is great for bangles, lariats, rings, earrings
or pendants, in cool silver or warm gold settings. Pair turquoise with your beige and brown basics for a natural look, or use a splash to add some dash to black or white. Another option: go turquoise-in-a-tornado with varying shades of green and blue all over-shoes,
bag, jewelry. Not sure if this hue's for you? Dip into fetching turquoise eye shadow from Bobbi Brown or Clinique and give it a spin. No commitment required. |

Tote couture Schlepping your gear in a paper bag is so Bora-Boring! Add some island spice to your life with an exotic tote that's just as happy in the corner office as on the Cote D'Azur. In straw, leather, suede or canvas,
in a rainbow of colors and an impossible variety of sizes, the girl on-the-go never looked so chic. LuLu Guinness brought back grandma's flower-powered straw bag, Tote Le Monde did simple, classic straw and Coach-never leather shy-gave the tweedy stuff a more corporate edge with reddish hide handles and trim. Fellow leather lovers La Perla and Chanel
did massive bags that take you from SoHo to the Hamptons without missing a beat. Hermes honed the ultimate weekender-toss in a bikini, flip flops and some sunblock and it's off on the Jitney you go! Miu Miu, Kenneth Cole and Ralph Lauren had a bright idea- this summer they focused on colorful bags, zippered pouches, and lots of stitching. Try mixing things up by toting a straw sack with your business suit, or a leather model with your beat-up jeans. It's all in the attitude, and how you carry yourself-and your stuff. |

Go out on a wedge Get a leg up on summer with a wickedly sexy wedge heel. Done up in sweet floral motifs, hot tropical fabric, pop sixties Pucci-esque patterns or Lily Pulitzer prints, the tapered heel is a must-have with all your summer duds. Stuart Weitzman did a fabulous buttery leather version for everyday, killer cork heels that work for work, and a leopard Lucite
wedge that's happiest strolling down South Beach. (For the record, Gucci genius Tom Ford deserves props for putting leopard back on the It List.) For the beach-or for a night out on the town-- check out: Ferragamo, Ralph Lauren, Bottega Veneta, Marc Jacobs, and Miu Miu. For corporate girls, closed-toe, ankle-straps
say you're all business, especially with a pair of billowy, wide-leg pants. The wedge heel is like the Earl jeans of your shoe wardrobe: You can pretty much wear it anywhere, with anything, at any time. And-like Paul McCartney and the Mini Cooper-wedges are thoroughly modern and undeniably retro at the same time. |
