OFF THE
SHOULDER/ONE SHOULDER
Jennifer Beals gave us that feeling in Flash Dance and Jennifer
Lopez has brought that feeling back by paying homage to Flash Dance
in her new video, I’m Glad. The look is sexy and sultry as
a soft subtle shoulder is exposed from beneath a flowing peasant
blouse. Emanuel Ungaro and Etro let it flow in sheer chiffons
and so does Celine with lurex stripes. Jean Charles Castel Bejas,
Cacheral, Faragamo and Clemant Ribero as well as Dolce and Gabbanna
play peek-a-boo with stripes, black and white or big and bright,
diagonal or even vertical. This is a look for this season that is
definitely critical whether in cotton or silks. Jill Sander, Carolina
Herrera and Roland Mouret favored creams and whites, a look for
summer that is definitely right. Luca Luca chose lace in a sandy
color and Stella McCartney ‘s new neutral is dove gray but
definitely decorated for a day at the beach or a night on the town.
At this years Oscars Halle Berry glittered in her one shoulder Elie
Saab goddess gown
while Marcia Gay Harden would have had Tarzan swing from trees in
her Jane inspired turquoise dress. Jennifer Lopez’s one shoulder
Valentino gown was very 60’s retro and Jackie Onassis inspired.
And of course, the belle of the ball was Nicole Kidman as she clutched
her oscar in one hand and adjusted her simply stunning black Gautier
Grecian gown. So the red carpet or running around this look is here
to stay and very today. In tanks
with cargo pants or flowy soft ruffle one shoulder confections paired
with flirty skirts or cropped pants, very 1950’s meets 2003.
Summertime fun has just begun; throw your new Nike shoes or some
retro tennies, if you feel more Avril Lavine than Reese Witherspoon.
But to keep the look Legally Blonde, Miu Miu, Prada, Gucci and Charles
David have wedge heel sandals that will keep you a “step”
ahead of style this summer. As my friend Donna Karan said once,
“I’ve never seen a woman with ugly shoulders”,
so show them off and let them glow! |
