BOWS
Bows
have always been a look of the chic but demure but not anymore.
They’re big, bold and alas functional. Kenzo, Emporio Armani
and Anne Klein all showed bows as tiny little closures like buttons
on shirts but with a sense of humor and elegance mixed together.
Nobody but Coco Chanel knew how to exploit that combination in fashion
until the irreverent and comical Moschino came along and used Chanel
as his muse/inspiration. Putting bows on belts and pockets, the
look is back in 2003. Moschino and Chanel seem to re-emerge as the
ideas behind Marc Jacobs feminine yet sexy collection for his own
collection at Louis Vuitton….a little reminiscent of the style
of Alfred Hitchcock’s icy blondes but with a spirit of light
hearted flare for elegance on slim fitted skirts
and sexy camisoles and little boucle jackets, he has taken the bow
to a new level of feminine dressing. Using it as trim to excite
everywhere as men are shedding their bow ties at black tie events,
designers like Dolce & Gabbana and Christian Dior are making
them bigger and bolder than ever for women on tank tops to blouses
and dresses. It’s to be worn like a flower so ready to bloom.
You can follow the lead of designers like Cerruti and Sonyia Rykiel
to tie big bows at the necks as a funky but feminine ascot. Great
for tucking into a suit, after all slim and sexy suits were the
rage at Helmut Lang, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren and most other
designers. With strings and drawstrings being the must have addition
to many tops and pants. Just tie them in a bow and you are ready
to go!!! A la Dolce and Gabbana or Allesandro dell’Aqua. Marni’s
bow du jour was used to give the empire waist effect tied under
the breasts on a sexy camisole. And sexy stilettos from Manolo Blahnik
to Kenneth Cole, Jimmy Choo to Christian Louboutin are waiting to
tie you up but not tie you down with lace up or wrap around sandals.
All finished off with a bow. So you are the present everyone is
waiting for. Also check out Anthropologie and my friend, Nanette
Lepore. They love this look as well. If you are not trying to tie
yourself up in this look, Lulu Guiness makes some great bags with
this theme. |
