Spring-Cleaning Means Spring Buying
Starting March 27th, eBay will be promoting a "Spring Spruce Up" campaign to buyers. Choose the Right Home Category
Serious buyers are particular. They expect products to be catalogued correctly. Don't jeopardize your success by carelessly categorizing your items.

Take note of these important category-selection tips:
  • Use "Other" Home categories sparingly. eBay research indicates that items listed in "Other" Home categories obtain lower conversion rates than in targeted Home categories.

  • Leverage eBay's "List in 2 Categories" feature to simplify category selection. eBay research indicates that it can increase bidding and price by 15% and 18%*, respectively. Learn more.

Consider the drawbacks of improperly selecting your categories. Miscataloging...
  • Diminishes credibility with serious buyers.
  • Limits your products' qualified audience.
  • Encourages unsatisfactory transactions and poor feedback.
Reach the right buyers the first time. Be precise with your category selection and realize results.

Merchandising Strategies for Home
There's a simple way to increase your Home sales. Leverage eBay's powerful Merchandising Manager, enabling you to "up-sell" and "cross-sell" additional products to your customers.

Home sellers are uniquely positioned to take advantage of the Merchandising Manager. Most carry complete lines of brand name products, which can be effectively merchandised together during their auctions and at checkout for increased sales.

To get started, all you have to do is open an eBay Store, enabling you to place three additional product promotions on each of your Bid Confirmation and Checkout pages.

Consider the benefits:
  • Offer additional products of equal or substantial value that compliment the item, such as a garden hose with a lawn mower.

  • Offer supplementary accessories that improve an item's use, such as bed sheets with pillows or skirts with a bedspread.

  • Offer supplies that protect or restore an item, such as polishes and cleaners with furniture

  • Upgrade to a Featured Store and you'll also be able to cross-sell products on your View Item pages.

  • Showcase your item in different colors, patterns, and styles, such as quilts in classic patterns.

  • Offer a more economical and premium alternative, such as a range of flatware.

Using Second Chance Offer
Home PowerSeller Stephan Prince of Rain Free Bedding and Linens makes the most of every customer that visits and bids on her listings.

Selling at discount in a competitive market, Prince works hard to leverage every customer she pre-qualifies through her auctions. By effectively using several eBay services in combination, including an eBay Featured Store, Second Chance Offer, and eBay's Merchandising Manager, she capitalizes on all of her under-bidder leads.

For starters, she lists both Buy It Now auctions and Fixed-Price inventory in her eBay store. By selecting the right opening prices for her auctions, she is able to keep her volume high, yet also generate competitive bidding, which can be leveraged via Second Chance Offers.

Higher-priced products, such as her premium Royal Velvet comforters, are opened near her optimum price, just below her Buy It Now. More affordable, fast movers are opened under $10 to generate bidding. The upside: she potentially earns higher margins on these items and generates Second Chance Offer leads.

To compliment this strategy, she keeps her Featured Store well stocked. Items are always waiting in the wings for Second Chance Offer candidates. The benefits are considerable. She not only increases her sales, selling direct to qualified buyers, but also avoids having to pay re-listing fees, as her offer is made via email. If the offer is accepted, only a final value fee is assessed.

"It saves me money," stresses Prince. "It really has been worth the time I'm spending on it."

Finally, she increases her inventory's visibility with her Store Merchandising Manager, which enables her to include effective promotions for additional products in her listings. It drives the whole process and also helps her advertise a variety of price points to different buyers.

"I do think it helps," says Prince. "It just says—Hey I have other stuff'."
