 Selling FAQs

What are the benefits of the Service Plan program, and why should I participate?
x

There are many benefits to offering buyers the option to purchase a Service Plan along with your product. These benefits include:

Increased sales and revenue
The increased assurance and peace of mind provided by the availability of a Service Plan will likely result in more bids, buyers, and a higher final sales price for you.

Peace of mind for your buyer
Buyers have told eBay that one of their top barriers to purchasing electronics and computers on eBay is the inability to purchase a Service Plan to protect their item. Service Plans provide your buyers with peace of mind.

Increased value for your buyer
With a Service Plan, buyers have a free and convenient way to service their product should the need arise.

Earn money with cash bonuses
For every Service Plan that is sold successfully on one of your items, earn a cash bonus of 25% or 50% of your eBay Final Value Fee for that particular item. For products that are $200 and below, you will receive a cash bonus of 25% of your eBay Final Value Fee. For products above $200, you will receive a cash bonus of 50% of your eBay Final Value Fee.

Best of all, you can receive these benefits with no cost and very little effort. Participating in the program requires only one simple step of inserting cut-and-paste HTML - learn more about how to participate in the program.

Note that in the case of listings with multiple quantities (i.e. Dutch Auctions and Multiple Item Fixed Price Listings), you will receive a cash bonus for the Final Value Fee for each item in the listing where an accompanying Service Plan is sold and NOT on the Final Value Fee for the entire listing.

Which sellers can participate in the Service Plan program?

2. The product is fully functional. The Service Plan program offers coverage on fully functional new, used, and refurbished products. If the product is used, it must be less than five years old.

3. You do NOT reside in one of the following states/jurisdictions: Maine, Alaska, Guam, or Puerto Rico (Due to state regulations, Service Plans are not allowed for sale or purchase in these areas.)

How do I participate and offer Service Plans for sale?
x

It's an easy one-step process for sellers to participate in the program and offer Service Plans:

  1. Insert HTML sniplets (cut-and-paste HTML code) in your item descriptions and buyer emails (see examples)
Click here to grab the HTML sniplets

When buyers click on the Service Plan links generated by your HTML sniplets, they are taken to more information about the Service Plan program. From there, they can link over to the N.E.W. site to purchase a Service Plan. N.E.W. handles the Service Plan fulfillment and servicing. No additional resources are required on your end. Just sit back and watch your revenue grow with more sales, higher prices, and cash bonuses. (Learn more about how your cash bonuses are paid)

You'll definitely want to promote the Service Plan in your item description so the Service Plan is part of a buyer's consideration set when s/he is deciding on whether or not to bid on your item. You'll also want to promote the Service Plan in your buyer emails, Checkout, and AboutMe pages. The more places you promote it, the more successful you'll be.

Note that due to state regulations, Service Plans are not available for sale or purchase in Maine, Alaska, Guam, and Puerto Rico. For more information on the various state regulations, please read the Terms of Service.

My products already come with a manufacturer's Service Plan or I offer my own Service Plan. Why should I also offer the N.E.W. Service Plan?
    x

If your product comes with some form of a Service Plan, offer buyers the ability to extend the Service Plan with an N.E.W. Service Plan.
    • If the existing Service Plan on the product is 30 days, you can offer your buyers complete assurance from Day 1 because the N.E.W. Standard Service Plan option begins 30 days after the end of the auction or the Buy It Now date.
    • Buyers can also extend a 90-day, 6-month, or 1-year manufacturer or seller's Service Plan with a one-year N.E.W. Service Plan and receive additional peace of mind.
