eBay Motors: Policies for Listing Assistants

Program Overview
The Listing Assistant program is modeled after the current eBay Trading Assistant program, but is separate because of the different legal requirements and complexity involved in vehicle transactions.

Becoming a Listing Assistant
All members of the eBay Trading Assistant Directory are welcome to list items for sale on eBay Motors. Before doing so, all Trading Assistants should review in detail any related eBay Motors legal considerations.

Policies for Listing Assistants

Please be aware that involvement in a motor vehicle sale (especially across state lines) may carry higher legal liability than selling other merchandise on eBay. We highly recommend that you check with your state's Department of Transportation (DOT) to understand licensing and liability issues before engaging in Listing Assistant activities on eBay Motors.

All terms of services will be negotiated between Listing Assistants and their clients.

Listing Assistants provide:
  • Data collection
  • Photo services
  • Listing creation
  • Inventory management

The following services usually require a dealer's license (check with your state's Department of Transportation):

  • Listing management (responding to emails, calls)
  • Post-sale processing
  • Complete end-to-end transaction
Trading Assistants who are not licensed as a motor vehicle sales dealer are prohibited from:
  • Listing vehicles for sale under their own User ID
  • Charging a fee for services based upon a percentage of sales price
  • Interacting with bidders, filtering or otherwise controlling the flow of information between bidders and the owner of the vehicle.
Categories eligible for Listing Assistants
  • Passenger Vehicles
  • Motorcycles
  • Boats
  • Other vehicles

eBay Motors Parts and Accessory categories are governed under the eBay-wide Trading Assistant program.

Two Types of Motors Listing Assistant
  • Motors Dealer Assistant (has 6+ months experience providing internet marketing services to dealers)
  • Motors Trading Assistant (has proven eBay experience, with 50+ feedback)
Note: Listing Assistants may qualify for both.
