Final value fees

What's a final value fee?

When your item sells or ends with a winning bid your seller account is charged a final value fee based on the item's final sale price and category.

How do I know what the final value fee will be?

To see how final value fees are calculated for these listing formats, see eBay.com fees:

  • Auction-style: The final value fee is based on the winning bid.

  • Fixed price or Buy It Now: The final value fee is based on the purchase price.

  • Listings that have variations: The final value fee is calculated per item sold and based on the final sale price of each item.

  • Reserve Price auction-style listings: The final value fee is based on the closing bid when the reserve price is met. There's no final value fee charged if the reserve isn't met.

  • Auction-style or fixed price listings in Business & Industrial categories

  • $0.00 Insertion Fee auction-style listings:  The final value fee is 8.75% of the winning bid or $20, whichever is lower.

Example of a final value fee calculation for an auction listing:
  1. You sell an item for $60.00

  2. For the first $25.00 you pay 8.75%, which is $2.19

  3. For the remaining $35.00 you pay 3.50%, which is $1.23

  4. For this item the final value fee is $3.42 ($2.19 + $1.23)

Fee calculation for special categories

  • Store Inventory Listings: See eBay Stores fees for items listed in Store Inventory format (in any category).

  • eBay Motors: See eBay Motors fees. eBay doesn't charge a final value fee for motor vehicles. Instead, eBay charges a Successful Listing Fee when you receive your first bid on an item or your reserve price is met. If your vehicle listing ends with no bids or the reserve isn't met, you won't be charged the Successful Listing Fee. There's no additional fee charged after the vehicle sells. The Parts category in eBay Motors uses the final value fee structure.

  • eBay Real Estate: See eBay Real Estate fees. Final value fees are based on real estate type (land, timeshare, commercial or residential, for example) and apply only when there's a successful high bid on the item.

You won't be charged a final value fee if:

  • There's no bid on your item.

  • No bids meet your reserve price.

  • Your posting is a Real Estate non-binding listing.

  • Your item or service is listed using the classified ad format.

How can I get a credit or refund for my final value fee?

This fee applies whether or not you complete the sale with the buyer.

If a buyer backs out and doesn't buy the item, you can open a case in our Resolution center to work it out with the buyer. If the case isn't resolved or you mutually agree not to go through with the transaction, you can request a final value fee credit to your eBay account when you close the case. This credit will be applied to your future listings. If you'd rather get a refund, see Requesting a refund from eBay (for sellers).

Also, if you cancel the transaction in our Resolution Center and the buyer agrees, you can receive a final value fee credit or refund.
