| Selecting a category When you select the most appropriate category to list your item in, you make it easier for more buyers to find it. If your category contains products in our catalog, you'll be asked to find a product by searching with a unique identifier (like an ISBN for books) so that you can add product details to your listing. Select your category using one of these methods: Search box: Enter a few descriptive words about your item and click the Search button. You'll get a list of suggested categories to select from. Browse categories: Click the tab to explore our category directory. Select an appropriate category and subcategory in each box, from left to right, until you see the message "You've selected a category." Recently used categories: This appears if you have listed an item before. It contains a list of categories you used in previous listings.
For better search results: Be specific. For example, a search for "Fenton glass vase" will give you better suggestions than a search for "vase." Use "and," "or," and "the" only if they appear in the product name (for example, "Diana Ross and the Supremes"). Don't try to use "and," or "or" just to connect two words (for example, "vase or bottle"). If possible, avoid choosing an "Other" category (for example, Video Games > Other) because buyers will be less likely to find your item. If during the product search you don't see your item in the list of catalog items, you can request that we add it to our catalog so you can get product details for your listing:
Click the Add it to our catalog link. Complete and submit the form that pops up.
