Specifying Calculated Shipping Costs

Specifying shipping costs in your listing is vital to your success—buyers want to know the total cost of the item before bidding or buying. Using calculated shipping makes your listing more appealing because buyers closer to you will see lower shipping costs.

You can have the shipping cost calculated automatically for buyers.

  1. From the U.S. shipping pull-down menu, select "Calculated: Cost varies by buyer location."

  2. Select the type of package you'll use to ship the item.

  3. Enter the size and weight of your packaged item.

  4. Select the shipping services you want to offer. You can select from a variety of services provided by the US Postal Service and UPS.

  5. The calculated cost (or a calculator) link is displayed in your active listing so that potential buyers can preview the cost for their location.

  6. If the listing ends with a sale, the cost is automatically calculated based on the package information you provided, the shipping service, and the buyer's address and included in the payment total when the buyer goes through the checkout process.

  • Use calculated shipping if you're selling large or heavy items, multiple items, or an item bundle.

  • If you want to get an idea of how much a shipping service will cost before offering it, click the Research rates link.

  • If you include a handling cost, it will be automatically added to the total shipping cost but will not be shown separately to buyers.

  • You can also have shipping discounts automatically included in the cost.
