Inappropriate Feedback comments policy

Policy overview

eBay's Feedback Forum is intended to be an open, honest place to share your experiences with other eBay members. However, there are some things we don't allow in Feedback comments, such as obscene language.

Make sure you follow these guidelines. If you don't, you may be subject to a range of actions, including limits of your buying and selling privileges and suspension of your account.

Changing Feedback left for a seller

If you're a buyer and you want to change negative or neutral Feedback you left for a seller, please direct the seller to How sellers can request Feedback revisions from buyers. The seller can then request a Feedback revision from you.

What are the guidelines?

Allowed

  • While insulting language, like "fraud," "liar," "cheater," "scam artist," or "con man," is strongly discouraged, Feedback containing such language won't be removed unless it also contains some type of content that isn't allowed.

  • Comments containing URLs or links directly into eBay such as eBay.com, PayPal,com, Half.com, stores.ebay.com/"mystorename", etc.

Not allowed

We don't allow Feedback comments that contain:

  • Links or scripts, including outside redirects into an eBay store, as these could be changed to redirect elsewhere at any time.

  • References to eBay or PayPal investigations

  • Negative statements left for a buyer that conflict with the positive rating

  • Personally identifying information about another member, including real name, address, phone number, or email address

  • Political, religious, or social commentary rather than a genuine comment about the transaction

  • Comments, replies, or follow-ups that reference a separate transaction

  • Profane, vulgar, obscene, or racist language, or adult material

Reporting a violation

We'll review the report and may remove the Feedback comment, or restrict or suspend the member's account.

Why does eBay have this policy?

We want Feedback to be an open and honest way for members to share their experiences with other members. This helps buyers and sellers decide whom they want to do business with. However, there are certain things we won't allow, like abusive language, because such comments don't provide other members with useful information. In cases where we think the Feedback violates our policies, we will remove it.
