About Your Search and Browse Results Page

When you search and browse for items, you get a list of results that includes a lot of information about each item. The results page also has tabs, links, and drop-down lists that allow you to reduce or change the number of items that are displayed on your results page. Understanding how eBay’s results pages are organized will help you find items more efficiently.

To search for passenger vehicles, motorcycles, powersports vehicles, other vehicles, or vehicle parts and accessories, go to Searching on eBay Motors.

About the results page

  • All Items / Auctions / Buy It Now tabs: You can reduce the number of items in a list by clicking any of the tabs at the top of the page. For example, to see only items with a Buy It Now option, click the Buy It Now tab.

  • List view, Picture Gallery view, or Snapshot view: You can choose a view by clicking the links at the top left of the results list. Picture Gallery gives a larger picture in the search results than List view. Snapshot view gives a photo album view of item pictures.

  • Sort by: You can choose to arrange your search results by changing this pull-down menu. Some examples of sort order are: Time ending soonest, Distance nearest first, or Best match. Default sort options may change depending on category.

  • Related Searches: Some results include links for Related Searches at the top of the search results. These are searches that match one or more of your keywords. For example, if you search for a DVD player, some related searches might include portable DVD player and in dash DVD player. You can run a Related Search by clicking on any of the related searches links.

  • Matching Categories: You can view a list of Matching Categories and run a matching category search from your results page. Matching Categories are categories that include the item you are searching for. To run a matching category search, click a link on the left side of the page, under Matching Categories.

  • Buying Guides: You can read supplemental information about your item by reviewing any Buying Guides that may be available for your item. To view a Buying Guide, click a link on the left side of the page, under Related Guides.

  • Search Options: You can also reduce the number of items in your list by using the Search Options on the left side of the page. Search options include Items listed with PayPal, Completed listings, and price. Learn more about Narrowing Your Results.

  • Add to Favorite Searches: To save a new search to your Favorite Searches list, first search for items as you usually do. Then, on the search results page, click the “Save this search” link. eBay will send you a daily email when new items are listed that match your search. Learn more about Tracking Favorites with My eBay.

  • Viewing Recently Viewed Items and Searches: eBay displays the last three items you viewed and your last three searches at the bottom of the search results page. (Note: This option is not available for all eBay sites.)

About the results

  • Item page: When you click an item title, the item listing page is displayed.

  • Icons: Search results often include small icons that provide additional information about the listings. See Icon Glossary for Listings for more information.

  • See quick details: This link appears next to each search result, to the left of the “Watch this item” link. You can either click the link or mouse over it to see details about the item. Details may include shipping services, methods of payment accepted, and whether the item is eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection. (Specific details shown will vary by site.)

  • Watch this item: This link appears on each search result, to the right of the “See quick details” link. This allows you to keep track of an item on your watch list. These items will display in the "Items I'm watching" view in My eBay. Learn more about how to watch items in Managing Buying with My eBay.

  • Picture size: You can change picture size permanently or temporarily.

    • To change it permanently, click the “Customize Display” link at the top of your results. Select the Picture check box and choose small, medium, or large from the pull-down options. Then click the Apply Changes button.

    • To change it temporarily, go to the bottom of your results list. You’ll see “Picture size” and three boxes for small, medium, and large. Select your preferred size.

  • Customizing the display: You can customize the information that displays in your search and browse results to view just the information you want to see, in the order and format in which you want to see it. Learn more about Customizing Your Results Page.
