Receiving and accepting a Second Chance Offer
In this article
In this article

A Second Chance Offer comes from a seller after the item ends and lets a seller make an offer to a non-winning bidder at the bidder's last bid amount.

When you might receive a Second Chance Offer

You may receive a Second Chance Offer from a seller if:

  • The seller has duplicate items, or

  • The winning bidder fails to buy the item, or

  • The reserve price is not met in a reserve price auction-style listing

Make sure the Second Chance Offer is legitimate

We'll never send a Second Chance Offer email with the subject line "Message from eBay Member." If you receive an email with that subject line, it's a fake. Forward the email to spoof@ebay.com.

Here's how you'd receive a legitimate Second Chance Offer notice:

  • On the ended listing page: After a listing ends, you may see a Second Chance Offer message on the ended listing page stating that you've received a Second Chance Offer on this item. To view the details and buy the item, click the Second Chance Offer link.

  • In the Messages section of My eBay: you'll receive a Second Chance Offer email from eBay in your inbox.

  • In My eBay: Go to My eBay. In the Buy section, click Didn't Win

Offers to buy or sell items outside of eBay are not allowed. They circumvent (avoid) our fees and are a potential fraud risk for both buyers and sellers.

You can choose not to receive Second Chance Offers:

  1. Go to My eBay, and then click the Account tab.

  2. Click the Communication Preferences link on the left side.

  3. Scroll down to the Member Communications section, and then click the Show link.

  4. Select None from the drop-down menu to the right of Second Chance Offer, and then click the Save button.
