How do I protect myself when buying a vehicle?

eBay Motors has protection programs in place to protect you from fraud or misrepresentation when buying a vehicle.

Preparing yourself by learning about your seller and the vehicle will also help ensure a safe and successful transaction.

Know your seller
  • Review your seller’s feedback.

  • Contact your seller with any questions. If the seller doesn’t respond, don’t bid.

Research the vehicle
  • Check the “Buy Safely” section of the vehicle listing to see if the vehicle is covered by Vehicle Purchase Protection.

  • Protect yourself from hidden problems by purchasing a vehicle history report.

  • Find out what the vehicle is worth by getting the Kelley Blue Book value in Price Research.

Understand the buying process
  • Read the seller’s payment instructions and explore financing if needed.

  • Determine if you will ship the vehicle, travel to pick it up, or buy locally.

  • Review the How to Buy a Vehicle tutorial.
