How do I protect myself when buying a vehicle?

eBay Motors has programs to help protect you from fraud or misrepresentation when you're buying a vehicle. You should also learn all you can about the seller and the vehicle before you make a purchase. Here are some steps to take before you buy or place a bid on a vehicle:

Know your seller Research the vehicle
  • Check the Coverage section of the vehicle listing to see if the vehicle is eligible for Vehicle Purchase Protection.

  • Review the AutoCheck vehicle history report by clicking the FREE History Report tab in the listing.

  • Find out what the vehicle is worth by clicking the Kelley Blue Book value.

  • Get a third party to inspect the vehicle for you by clicking the Order an independent inspection link on the right side of the listing.

Understand the buying process
  • Read the seller's payment instructions and explore financing if needed.

  • Determine if you will ship the vehicle, travel to pick it up, or buy locally.
